Show Us Your Pearl Stars

During my 'bling' period I had a Marlene Dietrich le, seen here next to Charles Dickens, and it had a lovely small mop star.

My second 149 in 18ct gold and the mop star really made it complete in my opinion. The first one didnt have this feature and trying to get one from MB was mission impossible !

OK, the glitterati are coming out to play.

Nice. Shiny. Things.

How dare they try to imply the 1912 has a MoP star after this display.

Pravda, I think you can show you new Moon Pearl as it is covered in MoP.

~ Yours truly admires the beauty in these pearl Montblanc stars.

However, in several cases I have no idea which pens they are.

It would be helpful to someday see a list of fountain pen models which have a pearl star.

That may be too difficult to prepare, but it would benefit those of us learning, who own no such pens.

In any case, hearty thanks to those who've generously shared these images of their lovely treasures.

You are right. For lot of photo I asked me which fountain pen it is. I edited my post by adding the name of the pens.

~ Cyrille and Pravda:

Your careful identification is greatly appreciated.

Those of us who have yet to acquire a Montblanc pearl star benefit from knowing what's shown.

That's one of the great aspects of photo posts in the FPN Montblanc Forum: they're an educational tool for those new to Montblanc fountain pens or who haven't yet expanded to certain models.

This evening I've been looking at the images posted by izods, attempting to discern which pens are shown.

Having a systematic ‘pearl star’ chart, or list, would enable prospective purchasers to look into models which they might otherwise overlook.

Both of you are discerning collectors, who add luster to this forum by sharing images and descriptions of your outstanding writing instruments.

I'm hoping that in the next several days other members might post images of their pearl star pens, as they're truly lovely to see.

With Appreciation,

Tom K.

I have just one MOP left: a MB 149.

According to Tom Westerich these were made as prototype for the Anniversary editions.

From the izods I can identify a Henry Tate and a JP Morgan.

~ Pravda:

Wow! That's exactly what I hoped to determine.

Thank you so much.

Thanks to on-line connectivity, we live in a remarkable era, n’est-ce pas?

Here I sit in remote Central China, receiving accurate information from a good friend in Dubai, about pearl star pens in the U.K., made by Montblanc craftsmen in Germany.

Lovely!

Again, Pravda, thanks for the rapid response.

A prototype snowcap on a 149- one of maybe 10 to 15. Sames as RVTHOF showed earlier in the thread.

Two road warriors - a LeGrand Solitaire Silver Barley ont he left and the apparently popular JP Morgan on the right.

I'll find some older photos of pens with MOP stars that I already moved along to new homes.

Since we are also doing some hand modeling - here is a 75th Anniversary 146 LE

fpn_1502820948__20160121_202346_resized_

The next two photos are the top and botton of the Marlene Dietrich 1901 LE also shown above in Pennut's post of bling.

And because if some is good, more must be better...

That was a Danitrio Kaijin. The pen uses long strips of very white MOP as the base for maki-e work. However, their old US distributer was able to purchase 3 of the "blanks" and I bought one (he kept one and there is another floating around). This is a huge pen...

All the pens to the right are about the size of an MB 149! OK, sorry for the side trip to Japan.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
