I had no idea this was happening under my nose ;)

I'll have to remember that line for the next time my wife notices that there's a touch of that going on here too

Nice collection!

Oh yea, I'm guilty. Couple squadrons of birds. They're horny little buggers, new ones turning up all the time. 🤔

Beautiful ! Thanks for the pleasing look. . . . . . . . .

No two of the little ones look alike . The promiscuity within your pen case is alarming. :lticaptd:

Look at all the fountain pens, of different colors, sitting together, without judgement !

Where did you get the 'tortoise' tops on the pens.....No, what are they???????

Those are the first I've seen like that.

Don't let money burn a hole in your pocket.....a whole flock of them followed the hot money crumbs from the Wharf all the way to my door....so I kept them.

They are... It started with the M200 in Black and an Italic nib and I was hooked (I also have a weakness for Pilot Pens, perhaps it's something to do with flight?)

That's right, there is no inbreeding there...

Oh lovely collection! Bunnies have nothing on Pelikans :) .

Certainly not in my house, although there are plenty of bunnies and Roos outside

I think it's just the light. It's really hard to take pics inside my house as it's a glass box but the glass is all tinted which messes up the light. (That's my excuse anyway!) I planned to take them outside but was too windy.

Left to right: M205 Taupe (with a M400 Gold Fine nib), M200 Cafe Creme (Fine), M200 Black (Italic), M800 Brown Tortoise (Medium), M205 Amethyst (Broad), M200 Cognac (Fine), M205 Blue Marble (Medium) and M400 White Tortoise (Medium).

But wait... there's more, how could I forget this one? M205 Yellow Demonstrator (BB nib)

Mine was sterile, thankfully. It had a loving home but the damn thing didn't do very well at school and failed in all it's grades and was always misbehaving with lots of issues, so I kicked it out. It's now adopted.

Pelikans reproduce exponentially. Many a pen chest has been decimated by over breeding and no known solution found to date. Great little collection there!

PELIKAN - Too many birds in the flock to count. My pen chest has proven to be a most fertile breeding ground.

Absolutely stunning!!! Quite envious, though thankful as you have given me inspiration. Just a question though, I'm not sure if my eyes or the camera are playing tricks on me, but just after the 500, that tortoise seems to have a "richer" brown hue tô its cap and knob than the rest. Is that true or just me? (Also, please forgive me as I don't know too much about Pelikan other than what is on their website, Pelikans perch, and maybe tidbits of some others).

Lelouch, you see correctly. While all the torts have a brown cap and knob, the 1950 400 version has the prettiest shade of them all, in my opinion. The newer ones are so dark they can be hard to tell from black even in sunlight. I love how each version seems to have unique stripes. Love the torts!

Funny you mention the pen chest issue. I've got a small collection of pen chests, each of which has been acquired to replace the previous one which was outgrown as I acquired more pens (more, obviously then I planned for when I bought the 'last' chest) .

Beautiful collections thank you both for sharing.

This thread had me in stitches ....really nearly w.t my pants.

Thanks for that.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
