Time to kick off the season in Phoenix for the Desert Pen Collectors (find us and like us on facebook).  In Phoenix we all hibernate or travel away during the summer and come out to play in the winter.  Not to mention our numerous northern visitors who join us for a few months each year.

Looking to set up our 2017/2018 kick off meeting for September 16 or 23.  Please respond if you can make it and which date works best.  Everyone is back from summer travels and buying trips, not to mention the recent great shows in SF and DC so I am sure there will be some new treasures to share.  Bring pens, inks, journals, ephemera.....and cookies are always good too!

Location TBD and will be announced shortly.

We had a great inaugural meeting last spring and a strong core of pen collectors to build a great group around.  Daily users, artists, newbies, and commercial partners all provided a great well rounded group to share and learn from each other.

Please reply, tell your friends and plan on joining us in September as we kick off the winter season in Phoenix.

Looking forward to seeing you all in Phoenix.

Jeff

OK. looks like the 23rd is working best.  Please keep tabs on this site and we will pin down the location in early September.  Will be a 1:30 start and we will go until we have exhausted our summer pen stories.  I have a few to show and hope others bring interesting items.

If anybody has any suggestions for what they would like to see or do at our meetings please feel free to post or email me.

Tell your friends and random people you see on the street with a fountain pen, join us in September!

Why not try to do it at Karas? Hope to see you, but it's a busy trade show time. Not all Southwesterners escape :) And as I'm writing this I'm in Mexico :o

If I do come, I'll be sure to bring paper and fidget spinners.

Best regards,

I'm looking forward to the meeting. I made it to the first meeting but then did not make it to any meetings since then.

All right, just a couple weeks out.  Hope everyone has gathered their new finds to share with us all on the 23rd.  Bring a friend or two.

Steve---Karas does a great meeting every month and we definitely encourage all to attend at least occasionally, but the Desert Pen Collectors is trying to cast a broad net of fountain pen users, collectors, manufacturers, retailers, and casual observers.  Karas is always welcome at our meetings too, and hoping to meet you if you can make it.

I am hoping we can settle on some dates for the year and maybe coordinate with the Tucson group to attend each other's meetings a few times per year--maybe even a joint meeting in the future.

Gather your new treasures or come empty handed--all are welcome.  The 23rd will be a great kick off to the year and look forward to seeing everyone again.

One week out and shaping up for a good gathering.  Trying to find a regular venue where we can get a big room and maybe a brew or a latte to accompany our discussion, but for now we'll meet again at my place.  Syd may host a future meeting also as we settle into a regular schedule.

Please bring a pen, ink, misc, or just yourself and a friend.  I have an assortment of Chinese pens to share with a large variety of style and quality.

We will kick off at 1:30 on Saturday the 23rd.  Shoot me a private message for directions.  I'll send directions to the email list again also.

Hopefully others have some summer finds and stories to share.  I am sure Syd has had a busy summer with his line and I am anxious to see what is next.

Let me know if you have any questions and see you all Saturday the 23rd.

Coming down to meeting day and getting some great new participation.  Hoping to meet some new local collectors and build a strong nucleus for the Phoenix area.  There is a Pelikan Hub the night before in Tucson so hoping we will hear about that from an attendee on Saturday also.

If you need anything shoot me a private message or look for us on facebook.

Another successful meeting in the books for the new Desert Pen Collectors group.  Returning members and new members made it fun with lots of pens to share, try, and discuss.  Also, very important, we had pretzel hugs.  If you didn't make it, you missed out!  Voted official snack of Desert Pen Collectors.

Corinne shared a beautiful new pen with red feed crafted by our Wahlnut Syd Saperstein.  Beautiful and amazing flexible writer. Syd couldn't make this meeting but hoping to see more of his new pens soon.

After lots of pen and ink discussion we planned out our meeting schedule.  We all decided a Saturday morning might be better so the whole afternoon isn't taken up.  We'll also look for a more central location as we add people.  Right now we will focus on south Scottsdale/Tempe or something in Phoenix north of downtown on 16th st. Possibly.  Thinking a restaurant or coffee shot with either a side room, or a large enough dining room we can take up a far corner (Cracker Barrel?).  More to follow.

Tentative meeting dates coming up are:

November 4th

Jan 6th (or 13th)

Mar 10th

April 28th then off for summer.

I will be checking calendars for any known pen shows or other events that would take people away.  We are looking for topics/presenters for future meetings also.  Pen repair, inks, pen brand specific history presentation, vacation photos of Yellowstone??  We are open to suggestions and volunteers.

We have gotten a lot of new interest through facebook and FPN replies so looking forward to a growing group.  We had an emissary in Sam Fiorella at the Tucson Pelikan Hub so hopefully she was able to spread the word too.

Cheers and thanks everyone for coming and looking forward to a growing collection of people and pens.

Jeff

I would like to attend the future meetings, please.
May I suggest a restaurant for a late lunch so we may linger before the dinner sitting - in a different area of the city, or nearby cities - for the convenience of some of the members? And how about a Show and Tell session, or in my case, a Show and Ask session?
Pardon the holiday post, but in the lull between present opening - yes, another pen and set of inks - and cooking, I resolved to do something about getting together with other people who have similar interests.
