How Do You Carry Your Pens?

Peterson

Recommended Posts

My interest in fountain pens is fairly new and while I've started a small collection and started writing with a few different pens to test the waters only a TWSBI mini has found it's way to my pocket. Being used to a Fisher Bullet I'm afraid to snap or crack my larger and probably less sturdy pens if I carry them in my front pant pocket as I'm used to.

What's your thoughts about this, are my worries unfounded?

I do not recommend putting fountain pens in pant pocket, unless they are sturdy like Karas pens (I remember Goulet Pen has done a durability test on them).

I usually carry three pens at a time, and they are in a leather pen case (Aston case).

The pen case goes in my cross-body bag.

Dream, take one step at a time and achieve. :)

A fake leather crocodile pen case I bought on e-bay. Many pen shops will try and sell you very expensive leather pen cases, but there are cheaper ones out there.

I carry a Nock Hightower case in the cargo pocket of my pants:

ALL my pants are cargo pants.

I don't trust leather cases, I've seen stainless knives destroyed by storing them in leather sheaths.

If you need more capacity see the Saki P-661 pen roll case - it's a cotton pen roll that will hold 6-9 pens.

This.

A Preppy, Passaporto or Kaweco work as pocket pens for me.

My three-pen case in my bag is a Nock Lookout.

I normally only carry a pen at work, so I just keep it in my shirt pocket. I have a Kaweco Liliput that I've tried carrying in my front jeans pocket and clipped to the V on a polo shirt when not at work; it worked fine when I tried it, though it's not something that I do regularly. My Liliput has a clip for a Fisher Space Pen - this was before Kaweco released their own clip. It was hard to get the clip on, but it's very secure and really doesn't move around (unlike the clip that came with my Loclen Tiny pen), though I'm not sure that it grips fabric as well as I would like.

My work pen is my Lamy Safari, and that is kept in my shirt pocket all day, and my Cross Aventura is kept with my Midori on the elastic cord. I'm keeping my Pilot Metropolitan in the drawer until I use up the ink in my Cross. I just dont want it to dry up. Then I'll switch my Cross with my Pilot. I like the sturdier barrel of the pilot compared to the plastic one of the cross. Better for carrying.

I carry my pens in my shirt pocket. If I carry more than one pen I carry them in my three pens Montblanc or two pen Parker leather pen cases tucked in my leather brief case or in my leather Lap Top bag.

Here's a link to a post about my various pen-carriers (others there comment about their methods)... :)

And a repeat of my post there...

Mostly, I carry them in one of these things, attached to a Leuchtturm A5 notebook:

...for some pens (the nicer ones), before putting them in the zippered section of the above caddy, I will put them inside either this thing:

...or in a sheath meant to hold a AA MagLite flashlight (because I have it and nothing better to do with it, and it holds some pens nicely so they don't knock against other things in the zippered pocket of the caddy):

But I also sometimes use one of these:

An ID card pocket is a plastic sleeve 3½ X 2½ . It is much smaller than the "nerd" pocket protector. It disappears below the top of the shirt pocket, but serves the same purpose. I carry two fountain pens there. Additional pens are rare, but I put them into a rigid eyeglass case, and the case into duffel or coat.

Carrying pens in pants pocket is a sure way to break them -- I carry 3-5 pens daily in shirt pocket plus notebook

I have some zippered and flap pouches (Cubix, Kokuyo, Nock Co); some pens evaporate so zippered pouches can be extra useful, and they can even be padded to provide more protection. If I carried them in my pants pockets disaster would ensue for sure.

I'd be willing to carry a pen In a pant pocket, but I'd be concerned with the heat drawing out ink.

Allan😀😀

And even then it would have to be something like a Kaweco ALSport

A hard eyeglasses case can accommodate 2 or 3 pens depending on length and/or girth and be carried in pants pants quite safely.

Use the shirt pocket for the Bic to lend out.

I use a good old fashioned pocket protector and carry it in my shirt pocket, or if I'm wearing a shirt with no pocket, I put it in my front pants pocket. It works quite well at its intended purpose of protecting one's pocket, and saved my blue jeans from getting too blue on an occasion when a sac decided to turn into a gooey mess in a Sheaffer Snorkel.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
