Hi.

I just got a brand new TWSBI Vac Mini and would like to know if any of you owners of TWSBIs have seen this kind of stain in the pen's cap.

And I say "in" because it seems to be ingrained in the material of the cap. Look:

Nothing that will make me enjoy it less, but we know how pen (and watches, like me) enthusiasts are attentive to details, and that's why I ask if you've seen anything like this.

I look forward to hearing from you.

No 'stains' but on some Twsbis the inner cap will touch the cap and create similarly located 'pressure spots' where the two meet. I'm unsure if there's potentially moisture in there or not but it doesn't concern me.

I'm suggesting that as a possibility since your stain appears to move in the two photos you posted, which admittedly could be a lighting effect or play on the angles.

If you're genuinely concerned contact the retailer you purchased from.

Thank you!

The stain does not move. Two different angles - I rotated the pen to take the pictures. It's hard to say if the stain is continuous or not, but it/they take approximately 1/3 of that region's circumference.

What is the inner cap? Can be that.

Hi Marcelo,

I scraped this (below) off the Web but can't attribute the Pinterest URL where it seems to come from without being forced to sign up for a Pinterest account (screw that). The additions in ( )'s below are mine for clarification since I cant link to the original Pinterest photo:

"How to remove the inner cap of a TWSBI fountain pen for cleaning. Wrap some tape around a (wood-case) pencil (eraser) and use it to grip the inside of the inner cap. With a little wiggle the inner cap will pull out."

So apparently the plastic cap liner is just friction-fit inside the cap.

There's at least one thread on this subject here on the FPN:

* Ink Inbetween Layers In Twsbi 540 Cap

The above discussion link applies to your Vac Mini as well.

Let us know what you find in the cap.

Good Luck, David

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
