Need Suggestions For Bound, Unlined Fp-Friendly Journals

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to get organized. A colleague of mine wrote this blog post on how she stays organized, and I think I'm going to try it.

Question: Where would you get a big heavy bound journal like the one she describes, but with fountain pen-friendly paper? So many of the sketch books I've seen in art supply stores aren't suitable.

Thanks.

Nice idea. It's like a commonplace book. I did this with a small, about 4x6 notebook since I didn't have all that much to write down. With an 11x14 mine would just be blank page after blank page...

The list reminds me of the Autofocus method.

But back to "the book". If no one else has suggestions, perhaps you can buy a ream of nice paper (e.g. HP 32#) and have it bound at Kinkos or someplace.

GatzBCN made one for me a couple of years ago and I'm still using it. Her work is amazing.

Alternatively, if you are looking for a FP friendly and inexpensive notebook, I really like the books by Miquel Rius at Barnes and Noble for $10. If you go in to the store, you can also find them in red. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/home-gift-black-soft-bound-medium-journal/12601534?ean=9780641026898

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I used to use Moleskine but out of it now. The Leuchtturm 1917 notebooks can be ordered plain (be careful on Amazon, not always that clear the difference between "dotted" and "plain" - if you want plain pages, you have to choose the plain one).

I think Rhodia is the very best. I always prefer the A5 format for all my notebooks, but they have larger ones.

Hope this helps.

I have seen/used one of the Gatz notebooks Amber mentioned. Very nice.

Yumbo, you won't be disappointed by Gatz's work.

I would suggest either a Rhodia Web Notebook that can be found from any of the various online stores like Goulet.

Also, I really like Tomoe River paper and lately have been using the Seven Seas notebooks from Nanami Paper.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
