Not a fan of Piccolo model in general as it is too small for me, but that finish is spectacular, well done!

The Chinkin just raises the desirability on it. Wow! Absolutely gorgeous!

What a gorgeous piccolo! Did you get it with the ebonite or metal threads?

This one has Ebonite threads. I will pick one up with metal threads as well but it will be a standard Aka tamenuri finish.

Lovely! I have been contemplating an EEF Nakaya. I'm assuming that it is functionally identical to the Platinum UEF nib. How close is it? Is it as toothy?

Current Daily Carry: Pilot Custom 743 with 14k Posting nib (Sailor Kiwa-Guro), Sailor 1911L Realo Champagne with 21k Extra Fine nib (Sailor Tokiwa-Matsu). Platinum Century 3776 Bourgogne (Diamine Syrah), Nakaya Portable Writer Midori with 14k Extra Extra Fine nib (Lamy Peridot), Pilot Vanishing Point Stealth Black with Extra Fine nib unit (Pilot Blue Black), a dozen Nockco DotDash index cards of various sizes and a Traveler's Notebook.

Hi,

It turns out that my Nakaya Piccolo Housoge came with an EF rather than an EEF nib so I am sending it back to nibs.com to have the correct nib (EEF) placed. I did not realize that till I inked it. I do have an EEF on my Nakaya Neo Standard that writes like my Sailor EF. I penned the first two lines with my Sailor Pro Gear EF and the last two lines with my Nakaya Neo Standard EEF. I will have Mike Masuyama look at some point. I think the EEF is too wet. It is 'toothy' but no more so the any of the Platinum UEF nibs I've owned .....and I've owned several.

Thank you (and lovely penmanship and drawing)! I have two Platinum UEFs and enjoy writing with both, so I am not necessarily worried about an EEF Nakaya. I was just curious...

I'm on the fence. The Nakaya I am looking at will be the most expensive pen I have ordered by a factor of several times, so it is not an order for me to just jump into (and I have to be able to at least somewhat justify it to my wife).

I've been wondering about the additional weight, and recently found out Nakaya also make a Piccolo Equilibrium model with metal rings to adjust weighting.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
