Who Needs Clips Anyway? And Why Do I Make Mistakes?

I'm back in the shop after a little vacation and have a couple new pens to show for my efforts. The first two are both clipless styles made from red and blue flecked acrylic. I really like the simplicity of one color pens and focusing only on the shape and design. The blue one is more of a cigar style and doesn't post (its just fat). The red one is a little more refined and does post. Both have 13.5 mm sections and are on the larger size. They both have Schmidt k6 screw in converters and will also function well as an eyedropper.

The next pen is... well .... a ... mistake. I can explain. You see when I go out to my shop and start to make a pen. I just pull open the drawer and see all these pen blanks. My mind starts racing and I start dreaming up designs and color combinations and at no point and time do I think about my existing inventory. So I picked up this beautiful mossy seas acrylic blank and combined it with some lime green Italian resin and voila my next pen. The only issue is that it is almost a replica of a different pen I have for sale in my store. So I must really like this color because I picked it twice. :D The pen itself is medium sized at around 5 1/2" long and has a 13mm section.

All of the pens and many more are available in my store at www.jandjwooddesigns.net

Stay tuned. I am also working on a custom pen box made from Walnut burl veneer and walnut with a leather interior. I hope to have it done and for sale in the next week or two. If anybody has any questions or comments I would love to hear from you.

I love that green color. I have a pair of hair sticks that color!!! It really looks sharp with the silver trim too.

I love that last pen too. I have to say that even though I don't use them for their original function, I do prefer to see a clip. :D

I know how you feel. My personal EDC pen is one I made with no clip and it still feels weird to me sometimes.

I think they are awesome!

Yes! That's what a clip is for! To stop the cap (or capped pen) from rolling off the desk. :P

Today folks, there is a solution to your problem. It's available now but you must act quickly for it may soon be sold out. If you act now, it's only two dollars. That's right, folks, just two greenbacks.

Here it is; please order soon...

Now that my carny stint is done, I do wonder what the shipping cost would be for just one.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
