That would indeed be a promising development. Will let you know if this happens!

Is your pen still at Hamburg waiting for whatever happens next?

really hope that they haven't yet sent it back. I contacted the local MB representative here in order to receive the repair number and forward it to Dennis (the AD from Holland). She hasn't done that yet so I will have to try again tomorrow.

The suggestion of complaining in their Facebook page is a good one. In my experience, a public complaint like that is taken very seriously and they usually solve the problem quickly. It wouldn't bode well for them to come across as a luxury brand that doesn't honor their warranty. It also doesn't hurt to let them know that you created a thread here telling us about it and that many people are following the developments of the case.

Best of luck.

Update:

Received a call yesterday from the local MB representative, "we were discussing your case and felt we would back having the nib changed even if it means absorbing the cost". Since I cant imagine they are actually going to shell out 500$, figure there was a change of heart at MB Germany.

It appears that some ghost saviors seems to have done the job...

Thanks for the support - known and unknown - and recommendations!

I now await my first OBB...

This is great news, but it doesn't clear up if there is a change of policy? Is it because it is a relatively old model that they thought it must have been used heavily and they missed the stamped sale date, or suspected it false?

I am looking around and finding all sorts of older limited editions around in ADs and boutiques, and I am tempted if there can be a nib swap. Saw a new George Bernard Shaw this week. But what is the point of a free nib swap after a few weeks, or a year if you cannot use it a bit first?

It sounds like someone screwed up and do not want to admit it. But if there is a policy change it would be good to know.

I never had an issue with a briefly used nib of NOS. Last year did a swap on a Faulkner with no problem. Not sure what the issue was this time.

If not for your optimism, Chrissy, I probably would of walked away from trying to make it happen. Thanks!

I think that it was the 'someone screwed up and did not want to admit it.' My best guess is that someone forgot the Hitchcock had a one year nib exchange period. ;)

I spent quite a long time looking for a Shaw, but could only find it in sets. After I gave up, I never went back and looked again. -_-

Great News! It pays to be persistent, (and have a few friends for support) So glad this is moving in the right direction for you.

Something tells me it is more "the few friends" than my persistence, bringing to mind the unforgettable lines of Allen Sherman describing how hard, consistent work prevails:

"So, I thank old Yale, and I thank the Lord

And I also thank my father who was Chairman of the Board..."

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
