Here is my review for Diamine Lavender ink

  • Flow Rate: Very good, wet in broader nibs
  • Lubrication: Good on several different papers, very good with broad nibs.
  • Nib Dry-out: Not noticed.
  • Start-up: Immediate.
  • Saturation: Quite saturated
  • Shading Potential: A little shading seen
  • Sheen: Not seen
  • Show-Through:
    • Tomoe River 52gsm and 68gsm
    • Cheaper generic 80gsm printer papers & lined pads.
    • Field Notes
    • Oxford
    • Apica Notebook
  • Spread / Feathering / Wooly Line: Wooly line seen occasionally with Sheaffer stub nib.
  • Nib Creep / “Crud”: Not seen, even after over several weeks in the pen
  • Staining (pen): Not seen - easy clean-up
  • Staining (hands): Not seen - easy clean-up
  • Clogging: Not seen. Seems unlikely.
  • Water resistance: Reasonably water resistant, but not sold as waterproof.
  • Availability: Available from Diamine Inks web-site and other outlets. 30ml plastic or 80ml glass bottles.

Wow, that's a nice color. (Oh great -- just what I need: MORE purple ink...).

Thanks for the review. And not....

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

You're welcome. :) It's nice and bright and summery, like lavender flowers. :D

Great review, Chrissy! Comprehensive and I think your notes about it are quite accurate. I like muted colours and this is on the borderline between muted and pure(pure blue, pure red, pure green, etc), but just enough for me.

I picked up a couple of bottles of this badged as Conway Stewart "Edgcumbe Lavender". Thanks for your review, and for reminding me of this ink!

You're welcome and yes, I believe Edgcumbe Lavender is the same ink :)

Thanks for the review, Chrissy. Maybe a bit too purple for my taste... but that Imperial Purple in the comparison looks great. This has given me a reason to take a closer look at the Diamine purples - I have them in my treasure chest, but haven't gotten around to try them yet.

I haven't always loved purple inks, but have recently allowed some into my regular rotation. :D

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
