Large Chinese Pens

Do you know of a Chinese pen that is well made and is about the size of the Jinhao 159? I just love large pens. C. S.

Wingsung 590 (right side) vs Jinhao 159 (left side) - is that big enough for you? By far my largest pen.

Pen or "war club"?

The 590 is indeed a large pen, but it's like a length of plastic pipe, and does just feel like a cheap plastic pen that is huge just for the sake of it.

Mine does write well though, with a touch of flex and it holds 10 gallons of ink.

Good novelty value, but not a looker by any manner of means, and a bit rough round the edges.

Another "large" pen I've recently discovered is the Yiren 827 and it's definitely worth a look.

Big, robust and weighty at 57g, and writes like a dream.

There are a couple of other similar Yirens, that might also be worth a look.

The Picasso 915 is another biggie, and what a pen.

A bit more expensive but worth every penny.

There are lots of Chinese pens which are "not really small nor light" - especially, if you are looking at the presentation pens with snakes and dragons.

From top to bottom

Jinhao 159 as reference

Jinhao 888 (with Jinhao on the trimband written in Hanzi - very difficult to find)

Jinhao 1200

Jinhao 1200

Yiren 827

next one I forgot

followed by two Kaiduoli

This is the largest in my collection and even larger than the Wing Sung 590. 'Sorry, no 'photos showing comparative size.. However, the pen seems not well made. The clip,,a crude stamping, is especially depressing.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
