Lamy Safari And International Cartridges?

Mendy

Recommended Posts

I am sure that this has been asked before. I am considering Lamy safari in broad nib. This will be my first Lamy. One reviewer mentioned that it is a proprietary cartridge. Another said it will accept international. Help?

I saw a video from one reviewer. He purchased a lamy safari. The dealer did not have the lamy convertor in stock and sent him a different convertor. Although the reviewer did not mention the type of convertor, I suspect it was an international convertor. I have several international converters and a large quantity of cartridges.I was wondering if they would fit the Lamy?

The reviewer was an idiot if he let himself get fobbed with a non-proprietary converter.

With enough brutal force all converters and cartridges will fit... Using other than Lamy converters or cartridges may damage the pen. Keep that in mind.

Hi, Modern LAMY fountain pens use LAMY cartridges and LAMY converters. No other.

that would be the ideal combo, yes

But these days there also exist Lamy-compatible cartridges from some 3rd party companies, they usually have Lamy at one end and standard international on the other.

I have used a Lamy converter in a Parker pen without problems and assume the reverse will work as well.

Ive used parker cartridges in a lamy safari but through the ink window it looks ugly because the cartridge tapers a bit.

Hi, I thought it would be dangerous to say that there are no other types that will fit!

Where I am, in an average british town, I can buy LAMY pens and cartridges in at least four different shops, at very reasonable prices, I don't have any problem in finding the 'correct' refills, and it bothers me to try to use the wrong brand ones.

I refill used cartridges with a syringe anyway, so new ones are a rare thing to me.

I have had my fair share of leaks with various pens over the years with all brands of pens, so I don't want to 'risk' any problems for the want of spending a few pounds on the real thing.

If there are compatible spares that are made to fit, I would try them, that's fair enough.

Yes, but it's made to be compatible. That's not the point here.

In kuwait the brand name LAMY is like a random asteroid floating in space that a scientist just gave a name to it and has just .....never even dared to know its name. Nobody knows it.

But PARKER and SHEAFFER, boy you ask anyone and they will tell you "Oh yeah that brand i know its a good brand, they have nice pens"

What im trying to say is that the only brands that are easily available at any stationary shop in kuwait are Parker and sheafer(ball and roller ball pens mostly for this brand).

I think by recently reading pentorium's post they were from the brand Kombi.

Anyway what the question asked is that wether the lamy uses standard or proprietary cartridge converter. It uses proprietary so YOU CAN ONLY USE LAMY WITH LAMY AND NO OTHER.

its the best way to make a profit.

Proprietary LAMY cartridges will fit. Others may or may not. There are risks. Forcing a tight cartridge onto the nipple might damage the pen. A loose fit would leak. LAMY cartridges are more expensive, but cartridges can be refilled a dozen times, with bottle ink, using a syringe. A LAMY Z26 converter costs $7 - $8 .

Cartridges and converters are cheap. Why not use the proprietary ones? Why would anyone try to ram in a different type and risk breaking the pen? -_-

Maybe a photo of the two types of cartridge would help to prove the point?

Aesthetics aside Parker converters work fine in Lamy pens

Enjoy your pens

Have a nice day

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
