Massdrop - Faber Castell Loom $29.99

Great deal on an insane pen. They go for $40 everywhere, shipping from massdrop is about $3, so $33 for a $40 pen isn't a bad deal at all, especially considering the loom would be a great deal at $60-70.

If you don't have a loom, you should. I already have one and think the M I have is hands down one of the finest writing nibs I own at any price point. It's got great ergonomics, nice weight, cap posts deeply and weighs nothing (but is also super tough - I think it's glass reinforced, the barrel/grip is metal) and even has a sprung clip, super fancy.

All nib sizes are available, EF, F, M, and B. I own an M already and if I had a little money, I'd probably pick up an EF too.

The silver is rather boring, but they have a lot of colors (I suggest against the piano finish, it's prone to scratching and is too slippery) I went for blue/silver.

Link to the pen is HERE , if you plan on buying, please use my link HERE to register for the site, and I get a goody bag!

Thusfar I've had great experience with massdrop. My lamy 2000 shipped within 2 weeks, and I've since ordered a nice little pocket knife and some diamine shimmertastic inks.

La Couronne du Compte has the Loon at about $10 less than MD. I'm not sure about shipping, but they have free shipping over some amount.

It takes too damn long for Massdrop to ship. With tax in California + shipping, you only save $3 compared to Amazon and you can get it for in 1 or 2 days with prime.

I've not had any issue with shipping (yet, I have heard there are sometimes delays). I'm willing to wait ~2 weeks after a drop ends, but to each his/her own! My second Lamy 2000 will be here this week, and for $102 shipped, I was quite happy to be patient.

Wherever you get your loom, you definitely need to own a loom. It'a really a must-have fountain pen in its unique design, exquisite quality and stunning writing performance.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
