Greetings from Pittsburgh!

I generally suggest clicking on the "View New Content" button at the top of the screen, to get a good range of threads in different topics. And to check out the Ink Reviews Forum.

So, when pen(s) and ink(s) do you have?

BTW -- be warned. We are all shameless enablers here, and will more than happy to help you spend your discretionary funds on pens, inks, paper, repair tools, sealing wax, storage systems, admission to pen shows.... I've been here about 5-1/2 years; before that I had never HEARD of Parker 51s and now I have NINE of them (just picked up two last month). Plus a 51 Special, a 21, and a 41.... And I have almost as many Parker Vacumatics -- and that's not even all the Parker pens....

Last night I dreamed I found a pen in a box which I hadn't remember having bought. And then found another, similar one without a cap and I wasn't sure which pen (the first one or the second, thinner, one) the cap belonged to -- and I didn't remember buying the second one either....

Actually I took the name Bellatrix from the same place JK Rowling did, instead of from the character she named.

The Star that is the left shoulder of Orion is called Bellatrix. :)

Enablers are some of my very favorite people.

my EDC are JinHao x750s, one with a Goulet stub nib and one with a Monteverde, but I recently acquired a couple of Stipula Etruria Rainbows to start at adoringly. I may even ink and write with one of them one day.

I came to fountain pens by way of calligraphy so I'm most comfortable with stubs, And I love ink with flair. All that glitters is most of my favorite inks. ;)

Hello and welcome back to the FPN, from Cape Town, South Africa.

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Interesting (I was going to ask if you had any connection with a guy known as "Paul of Bellatrix" in the SCA.....).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
