Recommended Posts

Our next meeting will be August 12th. Fred Krinke has, again, been kind enough to open up his store for us to meet: THE FOUNTAIN PEN SHOP, 2640 So. Myrtle Ave. Unit 12 Monrovia, CA 91016.

The topic for this meeting will on FAKES & FRAUDS. Fred is going to give a demonstration on look-alikes or downright fakes. If any club member has a pen they are not 110% sure is the real McCoy feel free to bring it to a meeting for evaluation.

The meeting will be at our traditional time, from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. The usual mass quantities of pizza will be served. You are invited to bring snacks to share. If you are going to bring drinks please provide single serving bottles/cans.

Bumping up as a reminder of the upcoming meeting.

I love to attend but I am not a member.

Is it possible to join the member and join the meeting on Saturday?

Thank you :)

This makes me happy, especially since I had to miss our local gathering.

Glad you could make it!

Thank you!

Just talking to people who share the same joy was incredible.

It also gave me a chance to get a pencase I wanted and got a nice Victorian dip pen.

Extra happy!

As much as I would have liked to I couldn't make this event. I'm a big fountain pen user and fan but not a collector by the standards of this group... just the same I enjoy sharing and especially learning. Does the club have other benefits beyond the meetings? How can I join? Thanks

I think anyone who love pens are welcome to join the club.

Everyone is super friendly. They made me feel that I had been belonging to the club for a long time, although it was my first time.

The club has a website as shown below, but all you need is to show up in the meeting and the membership is $10/year.

…which pays for the bottomless pizza at each meeting. Nothing beats a little mozzarella on your Red Ripple Waterman.

Yes, and they are good!! :)

The oils help protect the hard rubber. Pepperoni pizza is needed for a Waterman Re Tipple. IIRC, the pepperoni oil is good for the black hard rubber part, and the grease from the cheese protects the red hard rubber. But it could be the other way around.

And no doubt with all that pizza being provided I won't need to bring any of my own dough to make purchases..... sorry, I could resist.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
