PhilH - I usually use 28 lb laser copy paper from the office, specifically Hammermill Color Copy Digital. It is quite nice overall and provides a smooth surface for my writing samples. I can also get more use out of documents after editing them.

 

The brightness is 100, in case anyone is curious. It makes up somewhat for the dim office lighting and cell phone I use for photos.

I have 3 broad nibs with me today so i thought a comparative writing sample might be interesting. the three pens are all shown in this thread already:

 

1. MB 146 solitaire barley with an 18K BB - filled with custom MB ink mix from 1990s

2. Bexley Winter Wonderland with a 1.5 Franklin Christoph steel nib - filled with Akkerman Groenmarkt Smaragd (#26)

3. Sailor KOP with 21K King Eagle nib - filled with Iroshizuku Yama budo - written at 45 degrees

 

Paper is the same quality copy paper noted in the previous post.

Exciting to find my tribe. I have two fine points, one a graduation present in 1982 when everything was fine (I didn't pick it out) and one rare-ish that I couldn't pick and choose. Otherwise all my nibs are broad, extra broad, chisel, and shovel. I used to do calligraphy (Italic and I had half-uncial aspirations) but my hand is damaged from surgery so I can't do much anymore.

 

Now: where are the cookies?

Some sort of flex, although the wetness hides the flex very well, and I'm not one for pushing flex pens to their limits. It's certainly not a nail though.

I have a Mb BB nib in a 149. I'm sure it looks much broader than your 146. I must ink it up and write a sample with it.

I don't have many broad-nibbed pens, but I change up sometimes, so I bought a battered gold ringtop over the weekend, with what looks like a Hicks stub nib.

 

Don't hold your breath for a report...the thing will need restoration.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.
