Im sorry, I can’t get the B to show up as well as I can see it. The 2 pens are the Visconti blue Divina and the Sailor king of Pen.

I took a punt on a minimally-described Parker 51 on Ebay, that had pretty uninspiring photos, because the nib, though out of focus, looked... interesting.

Turned out to be a very nice broad stub vac-fill 51. After a clean out and a fresh diaphragm it's writing very nicely, and the nib is a joy! It's currently inked with NOS Permanent Turquoise Quink from maybe the early 1990s.

Your Parker 51 broad stub writes with brilliance!

The handwriting sample brings out the nib’s charm.

Thank you for posting the images.

I managed to snatch my first broad nib in an ebay auction. The pen is allegedly unbranded but the nib is a beautiful OB and the seller serviced it and polished it.

My first OB nib!

I'm basically vibrating into the next dimension for the excitment.

Wow! This is unexpected great news!

Thank you so much for sharing your happiness with us.

An OB nib may bring much writing pleasure.

The poetry you present in FPN might be enhanced by such a nib.

May it arrive soon and exceed your expectations!

Very nice! I imagine this is really lovely to write with. And your macro photography is fantastic. Even though I have a great camera and lenses for landscape photography, my macro photography is poor to say the least.

Thank you for your generous comments.

The hand-held image was made with the following, using Manual shooting mode:

• Canon EOS 1D X

• Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 50mm f/2 ZE

Obtaining adequate indirect natural luminosity is a challenge for such high resolution close-ups.

Thank you for the information. Those Zeiss lenses are amazing, unfortunately also very heavy. I have a Nikon D810 with a 24-120mm lens, and a few other kit type lenses. It is a fantastic camera and lens combo for landscape - which is most of what I do. But not a great for macro "on the fly". And, unfortunately, with my shoulder/neck injury, carrying even my camera and lens is just too painful, so I am looking at some of the new, lighter mirrorless cameras. Where to fit that in among my pen purchases is a bit of challenge as well. But truthfully, my next big purchase is likely going to be the camera because I carrying a camera with me when I walk and hike.

Definately a "broad" stoke:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
