Photobucket want's money, what is a good free one?

I don't even know how much Photobucket wants to soak me for, in Foxfire said using my E-mail address is not safe there.

The only thing I use it for is showing off my pens on FPN....which I now find out is a third party.

BoBo, on Photobucket do you get this?

On another chatroom about "classic flyrods & fly reels" some of the member's former image posts have been blocked like this:

Another vote for imgur. There isn't really any true competition, currently.

FPN "upload" tab. It works and it's free.

I second that. I know I have some posts to "repair" thanks to using Photobucket. My posts using FPN or my personal website are just fine.

Hello BoBo,

I also like Imjur a lot... even an IT illiterate such as myself can get pretty good results there. :)

Here is my response to mke's query a while back, "what pens are on your desk right now?" (My pen table in this case; btw, the Waldmann Tuscany is the second pen in from the front, in the left column, but this pic doesn't do it justice)...

You can also crop/resize and rotate photos, plus there is an advanced feature, (which I haven't messed with yet). For example, here is my yearbook photo and my avatar is this photo after it was cropped...

And here is a beautiful gem, (1953 Oldsmobile 98, Alpine white over Fern Green), that is owned by a pal of mine; we had the honor of escorting a couple of lovely ladies on a very pleasant Independence Day celebration the other night. :) (BoBo, I thought I might like to dip my toe in the water ;)).

ONE WORD OF WARNING: If you crop/change a photo, the revised photo REPLACES the original in your album... so, keep that mind... you may want to upload a duplicate image if you're going to alter it.

So you can see for yourself; if Imjur works this good for the likes of me... it's gonna work great for you!

I will also use FPN's system, but for me, it's been a nuisance sometimes because my files are either too large; or if the image does post, it posts lopsided, (although the last couple of times, everything has been okay, so I don't know if they corrected something or if I unwittingly did).

Be well. :)

I had thought.....that I had to be in Photobucket or something like that to upload on the Com. I didn't know I could upload from my computer.

Once I learn how.

It's not difficult Bo Bo. Here is a detailed tutorial:

Photobucket is an abomination of pop-ups and incredibly slow performance - may they die a slow and painful death.

I've been using Imgur and like it - fast and functional.

I only recently switched to Flickr from Imgur. The latter is fine, simple to use, and offers reliability and some useful tools for free like statistics. It's just the number of annoying GIFs and stupid images in the background I'm expected to enjoy which puts me off.

I like to use altervista. Although it is a website hosting service, you can just upload your photos and hotlink them directly to any forum, free from the plague of ads and with the freedom to name the pic as you wish. And take it down whenever you want.

I switched to Imgur. So far it's a lot easier to use and faster than Photobucket ever was. It's actually an image social media platform and I recommend wasting a few hours looking through the pics on there as well. :D

After using Photobucket for 10 years, now they want to charge me $399.99, for the privilege of posting on forums?

Are they out of their minds ?

Yep. They're out of their minds. Apparently they "forgot" that they billed themselves primarily as an image HOSTING service for over a decade. Either that or they pulled a long con. Either way...too bad so sad (not!). Stick a fork in them, they're done.

That free FPN posting has been around since 2011 :o .

Thanks for the link...but I think I'll try Imgur first........turning around biting at my own tail, have found I've turned into an old dog....when it comes to new tricks.

$3.99 I could understand.....I don't know if $39.90 would have been 'realistic' or not.

I'd thought someone was joking when they mentioned $399...............I've got pens to buy....beer?

They just shot themselves with both feet with a double barreled shotgun.....and soon as I'm on Imgur, I'll delete all my pictures on Photobucket......message received.....

Thanks for the help.

Ah harum....now that I'm in....where's the instructions????

Like how to load a lot of pictures at once....not one at a time?

For me a lot of pictures...half my pens, half my inkwells.

Self host is the only way to go for BBS's like ours. I stareted with PB about 15 years ago I guess but now that memory is so cheap most BBS's worth their salt are self hosting like FPN.

Example, an image of 800x800 pixels at 72 dpi (the most the average computer can resolve) is less than 2Mb.

That means a 1Tb hard drive will hold 500,00 (half a million) images. And that 1Tb drive costs about $50-60.

I'm not a computer expert but if you know my math is wrong please correct me.

It's really the only way to keep an accurate history of what transpires. Kudos to our host here at FPN for recognizing this.

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income. - Errol Flynn

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
