Hello From The Land Of Conid

Hi

Was for several decades a user of a titanium Noblesse set (pen and ball) due to age (pen retired cap not closing anymore) and ballpoint "borrowed" I spent a few years with... noname no merit

, just for writing ballpoints.

Suddenly a couple of weeks ago I felt the urge of getting a fountain pen on "bleu des mers du sud" aka turquoise juice.

Went to reputed pen shops, but price of stuff I liked felt... well dear.

So started to score internet and found some interesting pens, until I stumbled a non descript ad, went overthere and felt a connection I made a proposal, on some of the "tools" and went home with 3 Pens.

Since, haven't written this much in years, even sent postcards during hollidays à couple of weeks ago ...

Well smitten and caught myself writing for the sake of writing

Now, next step will be either a tech machine to please the techie in me or couple of colourful heart induced custom made pens, nicest option would be all of them ...

Anyway, community is a lot bigger than I thaught, funny part is that in the last weeks had some completely different contacts with people I didn't touch in the past.

Communication thru ink and paper who would bet on this ? 👍

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town (South Africa).

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Welcome !

In our digital world, writing by hand is very therapeutic. It almost seems that there is an organic connection. I am glad that you can return to writing by hand.

Write with joy.

Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

Retired, twice. Time to do more things, writing being one.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
