Hi everybody!

I'm Ryan, been a long-time lurker on the FPN, never signed up for an account to contribute until now. I've been a huge fan of pens ever since I was a pretty young kid. In middle school, my favorite part of going back-to-school was going out the buy school supplies, and I'd always browse every single pen the stores had until I found my favorite ones haha. Purchased my first fountain pen during my freshman year of college, back in 2005, which was a Lamy Vista. Been using fountain pens ever since, however only until recently have I started acquiring more pens. As of now, my current lineup is pretty small, but consist of some great pens which I love (In the order I picked them up): Lamy Vista (Medium), Lamy Safari (White, Fine), Pelikan M600 (Red/Medium), Pelikan M805 (Blue/Medium), Jinhau x450, Lamy Safari (Petrol, Medium), Twsbi Eco (Clear, Medium).

Really excited to get to know you all, and finally contributing!

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town (South Africa).

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Welcome, Ryan !

I bought my first fountain pen, in middle school, as well, although I was never "pretty" :lticaptd:. It was a Scheaffer cartridge pen. (1960) You seem to favor piston-fill pens. I , too, like fountain pens with self-contained mechanisms. On the vintage side, that includes lever fillers.

Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

Hi. I'm Maria and live near Woodbridge/Dale city. I came here to find other people who share an interest in using fountain pens.

I am recently exploring going a bit more analog and improving my writing. So far I like the results of deliberate analog organization and giving my hand a break by writing with an instrument that feels like an extension of my hand.

Fun fact, my one and only quality pen at the time, an Aurora, was stolen off a desk at a previous job a couple of years back and it has delayed me getting into this.

Welcome to FPN Ryan! glad you are into collecting pens, this is a wonderful world!

Please share your experience using your pens; I notice you are using different nibs, which is quite interesting!

Hello Maria and welcome to FPN! I suggest you make a direct introduction so we can all welcome you directly instead of using Ryan's introduction. Don't be shy = 0) we are all here to share!

BTW I like your expression "writing with an instrument that feels like an extension of my hand", as I feel exactly the same!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
