This new Solitaire Serpent limited edition arrived today!

It was stunning in person, especially the serpent engraving.

The eye actually is yellow-oriange, not red. The eyes are made of garnet and cut with facets.

The clip and ring on the "piston" knob are champagne gold plated, kind of rose god with touch of silver, mach the pen really well. Actually, there is another piece of champagne gold at the bottom of the pen, you can see it in the following picture.

The engraving is the best part of this pen! The picture can't do justice. The cutting edge is not straight (90 degree angle), it is actually has an angle for each of the cut. When you turning the pen, the engraved serpent is shining! The snake on the barrel connects together with the nib, and has the same silver color. The engraving is very smooth, you won't feel uncomfortable when touch the pen.

The pen is heavy, it could due to the brass body, and platinum coated body (not steel, actually platinum coated).

Congratulations!

It is a beautiful pen indeed. I am still thinking whether to buy this or not. My only problem is that I think it looks to fancy for me...

How does it feel in hand compared with other ReN's?

I have to add, the engraving does not look cheap and crude as described by some, which is great!

Unfortunately, I don't have regular ReN. I do have 146 and 149. Compared to the black resin pens, I would say this pen is very "modern" due to the material and finish. And it is heavier than 149, but well balanced. Overall feeling to me is modern and neat (Yes, neat, the color of the whole pen is consistent and matched well although it has engravings). In my opinion, it is the best looking ReN.. (but I don't own regular versions, so just my opinion...)

Congratulations on your new acquisition :) may you enjoy it in many happy days.

It's a great pen, surely. Though in my honest opinion the engraving I thought (allow me to rephrase from earlier) was a tad too much for me and appeared somewhat unrealistic or cartoonish. I imagined they're trying to make it extra special from the earlier versions so went with it. Again, I only handled it for a total of 2 minutes so I may need to go have a second look :)

Have another look for me, as well? Looks much nicer in these pics and I like the color of the eyes better than if they were red. Weight sounds good. Now it's down to dimensions...(and cash flow)

I've been avoiding this thread for the reason that I did not want to be re-tempted after I decided that this pen is simply too pretty for me.

Pravda: it wasn't just you- I've talk to multiple people who said very similar things. Usually your obnservations are acutely correct and a lot of us here heaviy depend on your review before making decisions with regard to MB pens.

OP: Not at all, your photographs are amongst the best I've seen of this pen.

Thank you my friend for your vote of confidence :) I wanted to go have another look at it this weekend, but it hasn't hit my boutique yet possibly due to the extended national/religious holidays in the region.

I believe for someone who hasn't gone trigger happy on the previous ones (black, ebonite, coral, tropic brown) this could be a great prize piece 'the solitaire'. For me since I have fallen for 3 of the previous 4, I am deciding to pass and tentatively looking at the UNICEF Skeleton for now.

But I will try to get you more pictures once I have gotten another chance to see it in person whenever I can.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
