Hello From Antwerp

Recommended Posts

Hey,

finally decided to join FPN (I've been reading already a lot).

Found a mb starwalker a couple of years ago and started using, for the first time in my life, a fountain pen.

Dropped it on it's nib two months ago and decided to buy a MB 146 Ultra Black.

It's now with MB (already 5 weeks) to change the nib and to have a look at the way the barrel is allowed move in the cap which is really annoying. Makes it look (and sound) like some cheap fake.

Decided to try and fix my starwalker and it now works better then ever :-)

Also already 20+ years ,a fanatical mechanical pencil user (Pentel 207) and looking out for a Caran d'Ache Madison 0.7 mm with push nob.

That's All Folks !

Hello and welcome to FPN, from Cape Town (South Africa).

To sit at one's table on a sunny morning, with four clear hours of uninterruptible security, plenty of nice white paper, and a [fountain] pen - that is true happiness!

Hello and welcome to the Fountain Pen Network. Glad you have joined us. You, having joined us, make us better. This is now your place as much as it is ours. Please don't be shy. Ask all the questions you have and don't hesitate to state your opinions. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Welcome !

You lucky man, you live in a town with a MB Shop, and most of all, with 2 other very nice FP shops (Kockx, and another one not far from the Cathedral :D )

One pen roll, two pen rolls, three pen rolls ... So many pen rolls ! Do you want one ?

my tiny shop is open and you can have a closer look on my website to see my cotton (and sometimes silk) OOAK penrolls.

:-) You're right, I live in a great town, Europe's best kept secret !

The one PF shop 'not far from the Cathedral' is 'pen&pencils' and but this shop is about to close.

We have another great FP shop at the Paardemarkt (Horse market) which now operates under penworld.be. Super friendly service !

PS : Normandy is also very nice ; have been there twice with a motorcycle. Great roads, fantastic views !

Sorry to hear it's about to close ...

I'll try to have a look at the other shop next time I'll go to Antwerp (my husband works there :D )

And I forgot to talk about the Conid Factory ;)

Ans yes, Normandy is a very nice place :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
