Hello, I am Bob. I stumbled into FP the first of May and received my first FP on the 10th of May. It was suggested that I join one of the communities and since I'd found many great answers to my questions on FPN I decided to start here.

Welcome aboard, from Charleston, SC. As a newbie, you might look at the Reference Pages on a website called Richard's Pens: it has a wealth of info about the basics of fountain pens, their use and care, and it will help you avoid making some mistakes. When evaluating any pen you acquire, bear in mind that how it writes is a complex interplay of the pen, nib, ink, paper, and writer, so your experience will vary depending on the mix of the above. This is something you can only discover with experimentation on your own. Have fun.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
