The next meeting of the Central Ohio Pen Club will be Saturday July 15 from 10am - Noon at the Franklinton Branch of Columbus Public Library, 1061 W. Town St., Columbus. This location is close to downtown and bus lines and has dedicated free parking.


Please bring one pen or ink you find unusual, interesting, or personally appealing. We'll go around and ask each person to spend a minute explaining their chosen item to the group. This is not a requirement, but we thought it might be fun.


Guests, visitors, prospective members welcome - even Wolverines, though you may wish to avoid wearing anything blue and maize. I'm just sayin'.

I think I'll actually be making this one. My work schedule is changing, giving me Saturdays free. I may bring a couple of fun pens.

Thanks for organizing this! The Franklinton Branch is a pretty central location and it has a decent-sized meeting room.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
