I sent a message to C-Town to remind him, but until he suggests a topic, we will press forward.

You find yourself on the corner of Las Vegas Blvd and Fremont street.

Why are you there, who are going to meet, and what will you see?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Late to the party. I just decided to write whatever came to mind, no matter what direction it took me.

As it turns out, it's really hard for me to come up with a story given someone else's starting point, and also hard for me to write something short (I write fantasy-length novels, not short stories...) Nonetheless, I finally had an idea for this one, so here goes (hopefully legible). Apologies if it's too long. The second ink (I ran out of the first) is KWZ Azure #5 in a Pilot Falcon SEF.

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks for the invite, Amber. Yes, this is the bus stop.

I write fifty-word stories. The story part is 55-words. OK, this ain't all that great but I surprised myself as this only took about five minutes. Sorry, no scanner.

Best regards,

George

Newspaper Headlines: Police Manhunt for Serial Killer

Waiting for the bus for Seattle, he couldn’t help grinning when she sat across from him and smiled.

He got up, “Getting coffee, would you like some?”

Soon they were chatting like old friends as they headed to the bus.

This is perfect he thought, as he knew they were searching for a single male.

I had an idea for our topic, but it's weird, and even I am having a hard time thinking up a plot... It starts with a sniglet:

Hozone (ho' zohn) - n. The place where one sock in every laundry load disappears to.

http://bertc.com/subfour/truth/sniglets.htm

Your character (or you, if you prefer 1st person) is a sock which has had it up to here with the whole wash-dry-get-stuck-in-that-smelly-shoe cycle, so he decides to travel through the secret portal in the dryer that takes him to "The Hozone", where he can be with his fellow liberated socks.

...you can tell the story of his departure, his arrival, his exploration of The Hozone, meeting old friends, his recounting of the story for his grand-socks (who grew up in a world without laundry, or feet for that matter), or whatever aspect you wish...

What do you think? Too weird? I know it would be hard for me to write less than a novel's worth, assuming I can come up with a plot at all...

I just stumbled on to this topic, and it reminded me of one of my favorite scenes in a movie: the storytelling scene in OUT OF AFRICA.

The ability to do this I always found remarkable, and I applaud those of you who can do it.

A Few Too Many: Somewhat Dazed

Street signs, Las Vegas Boulevard and Fremont Street.

How did I get to Las Vegas?

Lady approached, “Let’s have a drink, honey.”

Woke in a motel room with her next to him.

Called friend, “Fred, help me.”

“Where are you?”

“Las Vegas. Oh, no. It can’t be!”

“What?”

“A marriage license. I think I’m married.”

Well, yes this one might be a little silly. But, stranger things have happened.

Regards,

George

PS. BTW, some things don't stay in Vegas....

OK, here it is, in Noodler's Purple Martin, in an EF Nemosine Singularity, on a Made in Columbia NorCom notebook... The story of Nog (like "No" with a g on the end, not like egg nog) arriving in the Hozone. Feel free to continue the story, if you wish... :D

Hi, Folks,

LizEF, interesting story. Thanks.

What happened to the prompts?

Here's another bus stop story in 55-words.

Regards,

George

They Gathered Outside Waiting for the Bus….

It pulled up on time, driver greeted them with a smile.

After boarding, the door closed.

Immediately, the bus was enveloped as in a cloud and the bus started moving upward.

“What’s going on?” a woman screamed.

“Oh, you didn’t know, you folks are all dead,” the driver said. “We’re on our way to purgatory.”

Thanks, George! Yours was quite funny (probably not for the dead folk in it, but I got a chuckle). :)

Not sure where the prompts went. Hope my sock idea didn't put a damper on things... ;)

I think when it comes down to it (we) a bunch of busy lived folks all wanted to do something that we haven't had a lot of time to devote to doing. I know I have been busy with my university study's and haven't had time to answer any of the prompts.

I run on Caffeine, Sarcasm and inappropriate thoughts.

Ok, I've robbed one of classic for this one, but I guess you can do this with writing exercises.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
