Miquelrius Hardcover 8.5X11 Ruled Wirebound Notebook

This isn't a review but a heads-up. I bought one of these last week at my local university bookstore, and it was exactly what I was looking for. I know A4/8½x11 hardcover wirebound notebooks with FP-friendly paper are hard to find, and reasonably-priced ones are as scarce as steer cojones. This is one of them. The paper is 80gsm. (The Miquelrius website says it's 70gsm, which is the weight of its typical spiralbound notebook paper. I believe this is an error. I've compared the two myself, and the paper in this hardcover notebook is heavier than 70gsm. I say it's 80, just as it says on the back of the notebook itself.) The ruling is 7mm. Show-through is minimal. No bleed-through. People familiar with the poly-covered Miquelrius wirebound notebooks are equally familiar with the trim/ruling colors. I find these distracting, and some (the green and the red, especially) even make my eyes smart. But grey trim/ruling is neither distracting nor pain-inducing. Grey is good.

I got a couple of these myself and I'm very happy with them... I was going to write a review but haven't gotten around to it yet...

The best price I can find for them is on Staples.com. You can get them for $9.99 each with free delivery to your local Staples store for in-store pick-up.

If you are on Staples' mailing list you might want to monitor their mailings. Sometimes they offer a 20/25% discount on orders of a certain size or a $25.00 (varies) also on orders of a certain size. They carry (online) Iroshizuku ink too. You might be able to put together a purchase package and take advantage of the discounts offered.

Good tip! I happen to be on their mailing list, so I'll keep my eyes peeled.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
