Massdrop - Lamy Dialog 3

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure how many folks here use Massdrop, but I have some colleagues that have enjoyed Massdrop for other types of goods.

In this case it's a Lamy Dialog 3. If you commit to buy it's $241. That's not a bad deal, in my (US-based) experience, outside of ebay.

While I realize Massdrop is not for everyone, to me this is enticing since I was on the fence about the Lamy Dialog 3 in the first place.

At any rate, here's the link for those interested: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/lamy-dialog-3-fountain-pen

I was excited by this. Good price for a Canadian but....Lamy will not ship to Canada. So, I am still on the fence.

Mass Drop allows comments on the listing page for this product. Others have voiced their dissatisfaction on the shipping terms so while not immediately helpful I suggest you leave a comment there so Mass Drop hears you.

Maybe I'm not understanding how Mass Drop works, but I believe Lamy will send Mass Drop the shipment of pens when the time comes. Then Mass Drop mails the parcels. So I'm unsure why Mass Drop can't mail to other countries ...

I haven't seen many reviews of the dialog 3 and those I've seen have been mixed. I think this is Lamy's top of the line regular production pen so I expected great reviews. Are my impressions wrong?

Massdrop used to ship Lamy pens internationally, but I believe they've now become an authorised Lamy distributor - and one of the conditions they've accepted for the privilege is that they are not permitted to sell or ship outside the US.

Yes, I believe there were some issues with the pen not sealing properly when closed but this has since been fixed. Other than that I think the issues have been price and I agree it is expensive which is why this Massdrop would have been great, and size. It is a big pen but I have big hands and trying one out at a store hooked me. It was very nice.

I do agree with one thing I read, it's not for everyone.

I wonder if this means there's a US warranty. Massdrop indicates that some products have a warranty while other products don't. The product listing is supposed to indicate this, which this listing does not.

However I spot checked about a half dozen other listings and I never saw anything to do with a warranty.

I'm going to email them to see if there's a warranty. Regardless, I believe all products have a 30-day return window via Massdrop.

I got a dialog 3 from mass drop a couple of years ago at 203. No problems at all.

FYI I emailed Massdrop and they indicated in their response that this item or 'Drop' as they call it indeed includes a manufacturers warranty.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
