Help Identity Blue Ink Cartridge That Came With My Waterman Kultur Transparent

Hey Fountain Penners:

I just purchased a Waterman Kulur transparent fountain pen. Really like it.

It came with an unnamed blue Waterman ink cartridge. Does anyone know what Waterman name that color is?

The eBay store I purchased it from has no idea other than “it’s blue.” I can tell you that it’s not Mysterious Blue nor does it look like either Serenity Blue or Intense Blue. It’s much richer and in fact, I’d buy a bottle of whatever it is.

I understand Waterman has recently rebranded its inks, phased some colors out, and no longer make some inks available in cartridges like Blue Obsession. (Can anyone tell me about that ink and might it be the richer blue ink that came with the Kultur?)

This is my third Waterman. My first fountain pen was an Expert I that alas, has sadly disappeared. I have the aforementioned Kultur and a Phileas.

Ink suggestions are always welcomed! I’m currently in a blue-black or black-blue phase and searching for the “perfect” ink.

Thanks everyone! I await your replies.

In 1988 Waterman listed Black, Blue, Red, Purple, Green, Blue/black, South Sea Blue and Brown.

In 2000 or there abouts Black, Blue/black, Florida Blue, South Sea Blue, Green, Red, Purple, Pink and and Havana.

The revised colours have new names and I think some different tones of which Serenity Blue is my favourite.

I have a few Phili single pen packs with a cartridge and they look like Florida Blue at a guess...a mid blue between SSB and BB.

A few colours here

You may also be enjoying an ink that has concentrated a little; cartridges of unknown age might have lost some of their water. There wasn't much to tell between Waterman's Blue and Florida Blue apart from their packaging from the 1970s until the latest re-naming.

As far as perfect inks go... well, that's awfully subjective. I haven't tried Waterman's since the re-naming, but I've seen it used by others and it still seems nice. If you get a converter or a syringe to re-fill cartridges, though, the world is your oyster.

(the first of those links is a little fiddly; I found I had to left-click "open in new tab" on the makers' names to get anything out of it).

Great call on the blue ink being concentrated.

What syringe do you recommend? I see them listed from Amazon to eBay to Goulet and other pen dealers.

And the "perfect" ink - I might be new, but I know there's no such thing.

"Write" now, I'm hunting for fast/quick drying inks like Parker Quink, Lamy and Waterman.

Kon Peki is still my favorite. Aurora Black. And always open to trying something new.

I've got a stock of insulin syringes left from a recently-departed elderly cat, so I'm not really a good recommender of sources. I've gotten (pause for dramatic effect)... other things... from the Goulets, and never felt I'd done poorly out of the transaction.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
