Where To Buy Le Safaris, Cheap?

Flippy

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I have recently been looking into starting a Lamy Safari collection. I, unfortunately, am not able to purchase from Ebay, no questions asked, please.

So, anywhere else where I can buy rarer LE Lamy Safaris?

Josh

There is no cheap source for the real thing. Goulet's price, here in the States, is only slightly less than MSRP. Sometimes they pop up on clearance, 10-25% discount. Rarely. Any low price that appears too good to be true is too good to be true.

If you have patience, you can find Lamy pens at junk shops and boot sales. The price is based on the ignorance of the seller.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

Hi, I don't think 'limited edition' and 'cheap' go in the same sentence, it's the same problem with anything that is 'collectable', in that the sellers know they can ask for high prices and get them.

You will know the other problem with Safaris, thay are faked so often, that looking at website pictures, you cannot tell if they are the real thing or not.

Keep in mind that if a LE Safari sells well, it can become part of the main range. So not LE anymore.

I look in second-hand shops, and have had some good finds there. Just keep looking.

My only Safari LE was bought from a LAMY dealer shop about 10 years ago, no box, and it's the French blue with red clip version.

Why not just start your collection with the next LE Safari to be issued? Buy the ink as well.

Goldspot offers a package deal of the two most recent Safari LEs (Dark Lilac and Petrol) along with a Charcoal Safari for $100. Link.

What they said.

Rarer and LE Safaris are NOT cheap. At the moment there's a French Blue one on eBay -- I'm watching it but not doing more than that because it's listed for a three-digit figure.... :yikes:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
