Yep. Seen some of his other stuff. That's why I had to post it. Good humorous play on ebay sellspeak.

And yet, he clearly photographed each part of the pen, that could be considered a flaw, without attempt to disguise it's losses. (I used to not understand the concept of an "accommodation clip," & NOW I "see it clearly!") I appreciate your sharing this listing.

What ? You've never seen an UGLY fountain pen before ?

I have experience with this seller. She does very good work, and gives excellent service. I recognize this as "resurrection", rather than "restoration". Fountain pen people are creative. We should call this a "Phoenix Estie"! :P I have complete confidence that this pen will be a good writer, though aesthetically challenged.

You know, if it was some outrageous price it would only fair to laugh and point. But the current price is $5.50 US, so honestly, it's nod and wink time, and then move on. Unless there's someone who wants to try and find a real Estie clip for it (after all -- there are still plenty of NOS nib units out there).

I've seen a lot of stuff from this seller, as well, and he does a brisk business. He also has happy customers. He also seems to have a mountain of pens to sell. The descriptions and listings are all cookie cutter, with most having the same description, no matter what the pen. There also appears to be no pen he won't sell. Sac, wax, sell.

The interesting thing I've noted is that the shipping charge seems to be related to the perceived value of each pen.

I spent about fifteen minutes laughing until I almost wet myself. Upon returning from the bathroom, I viewed the listing again. First thing, throw out anything to do with Esterbrook. Next. consider, this might be a good writer for a small price. This seller has restored from various parts an old, clapped out fountain pen. It is nothing like what it is advertised to be, but it might not be a bad pen.

I've just bought of him and was very happy with the pen. Was exactly the same as in the pictures. Just take a close look at them before deciding to bid!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
