  1. 1. Considering a BB nib on the Heritage 1906 is..?

    • Brilliant! Totally unexpected contrast that'll be fun.

    • Would look silly on such a smaller pen.

    • Might be fun to use, but ink reservoir capacity will be a noticeable problem.

If Pravda wasn't already taken, I'd propose just for his nibs.

Haha! I don't know why I just saw this now..

How did this work out? Have the nibs arrived yet?

It actually did, but the feeder for some reason isn't touching (making contact) with the nib and so the pen skips frequently. Been trying to 'tweak' it myself with moderate success until the MB technician returns from vacation August :/

Hi there Pravda!

I want to buy a Rouge et Noir in the next couple of months, but I just can't decide if I want an EF or OBB, I see in this topic you already have a F and BB, can you tell me how do you like them? which you like better?

I enjoy EF's and BB's, but after reading this topic, ink capacity seems to be relevant if you have a broad nib, but how relevant is it really? I'd like to hear your opinion.

Thanks,

Luis A.

I have very limited experience, in written languages. Will you be writing in Arabic, with the BB ?

Please be generous, and post a few images of Arabic script, using the BB. The membership includes fountain pen users from the Middle East, as well as Asia, who write in languages other than English.

Your knowledge would benefit them. (Besides, I think the language is beautiful.)

Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

Most of my broad nibs are OBB but for the 1906 I went for BB for a certain reason: the Heritage nibs are soft and have a more give than the others and I felt that because its size is also smaller rotating it to hit an oblique sweet spot might be a bit of a hassle. A BB would be in that fashion more straightforward.

As for ink capacity, yes my F nib 1906 lasts longer than my BB nib 1906. But its nothing dramatic, I write a lot and its not like I have to fill it every day or anything. It holds as much ink as a regular CC converter which puts it in the league of a 147 traveler or a Starwalker.

In general, I rarely write in Arabic (in this day and age everything is in English) but sure Ill see what I can come up with tomorrow as its already late here.

That being said, I have to caution that I have noticed ALL my obliques to be poor Arabic script writers (right to left) because of the nib dynamics youll be pushing instead of pulling on the nib most of the time if that makes any sense.

For this a F, M, B or BB performs a lot better than my OM, OB and OBB. With the exception of my OBBB which is so wet it glides through anything conceivable.

Thank you for the reply Pravda, I appreciate it.

I'm thinking in getting an OB as the good friend Reed suggested, mainly because I already have a BB, and OBB, I think that it will be a good addition to my collection and also will add variety to it. The EF maybe will be for the next one.

Heres my Carnegie OB for illustration purposes. Visual aids usually help decision making.

Beautiful nib Ghost Plane, thank you for that, my OB 1906 will take about 3 weeks to arrive, I will show you guys some photos when it does if you'd feel fancy about it.

Have a great Saturday everyone.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
