I am brand new to fountian pens and keep seeing pictures of orange Lamys everywhere. Orange is my favorite color ever and I can't seem to find them for a sale anywhere, so any idea where to get one of these? Thanks

To my knowledge, Lamy has only made one orange pen, an Al-Star, as a limited edition a couple of years back. I may be mistaken in that as Lamy is a brand with limited acceptance in my collection.

Hello Squinj,

IIRC, there was an orange Safari that was released quite a while ago, but those are quite rare, I think.

The color you're probably referring to was called "Copper Orange" and it was used on the Al-Star model as a LE edition release a couple years back. You can probably find one on e-bay or here in The Classified's sooner or later.

Good luck. :)

There is an orange Lamy Al Star (or two) available on eBay. I didn't read the description so I don't know the condition of the pen. Good luck with your search.

One word of caution with buying from eBay. There are counterfeit Safaris being sold, with details duplicated including the logo and the packaging. Often the counterfeits are in the special limited edition colors no longer available from Lamy.

Here's some links to some articles on the topic. Be informed before you buy.

If you count the early/ original 'Terracotta' finish as orange, there have been three orange Safaris that I know about.

One was the 'Flame' LE, and I can't remember what the third one was called. Here is a quick shot of the three together.

All can be found on ebay with some patience (and generally a fair amount of money.)

(L to R: [can't remember]; Flame; Terracotta)

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.

I have the neon orange Pico. It is a novelty; interesting mechanism but uncomfortably bulky for extended writing. I have the copper-orange AlStar. Great pen, lovely color.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

Lamy Studio also came in a colour called red, but in fact was a dark orange, matt metallic finish. It was stunningly beautiful and wrote like a dream. I got mine as a present several years ago and lost it last year :( I live in hope that I lost it at home and not somewhere outside, though I fear the latter to be true.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
