Granddad's Pens! Can Someone Help Identify Them?

Hello everyone! I'm new here and relatively new to fountain pens as well, but I've already bugged my grandfather about pens he's got lying at home. I'm quite a fair distance away from where he is in China, but my dad's over there visiting, so I asked for some good pictures of the pens my granddad dug up. Dad Photography being what it is though, the attached pictures are all I've got at the moment until I can con him into taking better photos of the nibs/clips or get my hands on them in person.

I've identified the red/black celluloid one as a Guanleming 193 thanks to the, uh, minor "clue" on the body. The chrome/gold one I believe comes as a set with the ballpoint pen, and they both have Jaguar on the clip, which is a pen company based out of Hong Kong. Haven't been able to find much about these pens-- partly because there seems to be a bit of confusion with Jaguar the car and Jaguar the Chinese pens.

The main mystery for me at the moment are the black and the white pens. There are quite a few Hero and Baoer pens that look like the black one but none of the hooded nib pens I've seen have that cap. I'm also at a loss as to where to start with the white pen. Granddad seems to think they're all Hero pens, though that doesn't seem to be accurate from my research so far.

They certainly do not look like Hero to me, in fact they look like Gold Star 286 ( the white pen ) and 925 ( the black pen ) but there are differences in details and trim ( different section trim , cap band, look like a different clip but I cannot tell from the photos ) This heavy rod styling is almost a Gold Star trademark in design for their late 80's to 90's models

Thank you so much for your expertise! The black pen looks a lot like the pictures of the 925 I've been able to find-- I've asked if there are any markings on the clips, so if it has the star logo it's probably the right one.

Would you happen to have any images of a 286 handy? I've had a look on Taobao and searched on Baidu but can't seem to find anything.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
