Hi all, I noticed that the new collection Tropic Brown for Heritage Rouge et Noir is at the Fahrney pens website, but I am unable to open it. Do you have news on this model?

Thanks for the news. I had heard that a new color would be released this year in the Rouge et Noir line, but I did not know what color. I found the pen on the Fahrney's website and it is, indeed, brown!

Very nice. I will probably pick up the bp as I have the coral and black bps. The set would be nice.

I hadn't appreciated this was "just" a brown version of the existing line of pens, I thought it would be slightly different. Will need to see it in the metal to make a decision.

The champagne gold trim is definitely a gorgeous choice with the ruby eyes.

But I mentioned to some people earlier that they messed up deviating from the earlier prototype and going with an orange background for the star in the final production. It was much nicer when uni-colored like the earlier coral.

Nonetheless, it is a fantastic pen! True, not much different from last years but the colors are beautiful.

Beautiful. I looked at the Rouge et Noir line in the San Francisco MB boutique, but it seemed a bit too narrow for my hand. Nevertheless, I'd love to see this pen in blue with gold or silver trim.

I picked up the Solitaire version today. The brown looked nice but my wife did not like the gray version they had - reminded her of car primer.

Hi All,

Hope you're having a great week. I have to say, I've been won over by the Tropic Brown pens. We've sold quite a few now and every time they arrive with us I like them more and more. I agree with the comments on the metal grip section, but the brown resin just somehow works and makes it stand out from the crowd. Here's a few of our photos for you...

Roy :)

Don't forget the 1906 black ebonite version. It's a beauty as well. They're mostly sold out, but some may be available on the secondary market.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
