I'm currently using a Paperblanks journal which is lovely but I feel almost wary of writing in it. I want one where I can rant and vent, also write the good stuff and paste in memorabilia and tear out/cover over stuff when I feel I need to.

The best journal is the one you have before you.

Just use it, have fun. Fill it up till it's no longer comfortable to carry. Then buy another. Maybe the same, maybe different.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

I recently obtained a Seven Seas Writers Journal from Nanami Papers and I really like it. The paper is Tomoe River and a joy to write on with most pens and inks. It's an A5 in size, thread bound, 480 pages (240 leaves) and reeks quality.

Highly recommend.

Just use your Paperblanks journal! That's what it's there for, there's no need to treat it like an art object, it's not. It's just a regular niceish journal. Enjoy having a lovely book to write in and paste memorabilia in and when it's full you can get another one that's just as nice.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
