Why Medium For Limited Edition?

Why most of the LE pens come only with standard medium point? I mean the launch of Montblanc LE pens, and I'm aware the one year free nib exchange, but when launching the Limited Edition pens, why they only come with medium nib?

Medium and fine are what the vast majority select.

If anyone wants any different, other nibs may be available

~ If that's the case, then those who collect limited or special edition Montblanc pens may be somewhat less interested in nib performance as a writing tool.

I wonder if Atelier Privé clients are likewise prone to order M or F nibs?

Perhaps it's the Bespoke clients who are least likely to opt for M or F nibs.

Thank you for raising this question, ravatar, and thank you Reed_thoughts for your helpful comment.

When I used to buy Montblanc Writers Editions, they always used to come automatically in M, F or B nib versions. However, you could also request any other Montblanc type nib that you wanted. Has this now changed?

Most users, who may or may not also be collectors, like a variety of nib widths. I have a medium Wilde and it gets as much use as my BB 90 year. I am looking for an OB to add to my collection and will be buying the pen for the nib, not the other way around. Unfortunately you can only have it both ways if you buy new and exchange.

The main change is that B is no longer a "standard" option. It would have to be gotten through a nib exchange.

In fact, my Unicef Solitaire was a F nib, no M's had arrived to the particular store/boutique. I had to get it sent for a nib exchange to a M. Luckily it was readily available.

Similarly, my 90th anniversary came with a finicky B nib. I sent it to MB for the free nib replacement and i was informed i could wait a while to get another B nib, or get it inmediately changed for a M nib.

I chose the M.

There is no point MB putting a less desirable nib on a pen when it is both free and easy to get the nib changed.

Around this time of year I always put in my order for the new WE pen. I do this as it guarantees I get it as soon as they become available (sometimes before the official release). When I put in my order I am asked which nib I want. I always ask for a medium but the option is there to ask for another.

As a company, they made what the clients require. I have no objection to M or F nibs, once I have the majority of my FPs as M nib. I have a Boheme vert that is OB and is sometimes difficult to write with it.

I am part of the problem... All my nibs are mediums...

I am a medium man. Maybe a broad.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
