Danitrio Urushi Red Byakudan-Nuri Fountain Pen Haku-E With Legendary Lion On Takumi By Masanori

Hello,

I am in the process of purchasing this pen from Chatterley Luxuries. My first Danitrio, not a review post but if anyone has experience with these pens, which frankly will be more of a showpiece anyway, please feel free to post. Also opinions are welcome!

Byakudan-nuri is the style of sprinkling Kin-Dei (gold powders mixed with glue) or Gin-Dei (Silver powders mixed with glue) all over the surface of the pen. After the middle layer is painted in Urushi, the gold foils are cut into a design. This is called Haku-e. And finally applying a final coat with clear Urushi to finish.

Thanks

Steve

Love the Takumi size pens and they are certainly a great everyday use pen. Since each one is hand made the feel and dimensions will varry between samples.

I'll just add that Bryant is a good guy to do business with. He'll answer any question you have.

What a beautiful choice! I've seen that pen on Bryant's site and have been tempted by it. Enjoy it in good health.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

If you PM me, I'll give you my address so you know where the pen's final home should be. :D

That is gorgeous, I want more maki-e pens. Fish especially, but I'm not picky.

Beautiful! But I think you may re-think the "show pen" idea. I have several Dani's and love using all of them, even the very intricate maki-e's that I have. Reliable work-horses!

Great I am glad to hear the pens make good writers, I have a Nakaya and a Namiki Royale so I am a big fan of Japanese pens.

Lovely, thanks for sharing. I've half a dozen Dani's now so it's hard to quit. Working on focusing my collection on them. Enjoy!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
