Adelaide Pen People!

Peninknewbie

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

I'm planning to move to Adelaide for a year come August. I have a few questions, are there any fountain pen people from Adelaide here? Is there a local pen meet? Given the Pelikan Hub in September, would anyone be interested in setting up a hub??

Hoping a few Adelaid-ians(?) frequent the forum!

Greetings Peninknewbie,

I'm new to the pen scene in Adelaide so I can't really help you out with any knowledge on local pen groups.

If you haven't already found it yourself, I do know a Pelikan Hub has been organised for Adelaide this September. I've registered and will be attending for the first time. I hope to meet some other locals at the event.

Hey there!

I am also fairly new to the fountain pen scene (relatively speaking), but I was just chatting to someone on the Fountain Pens Australia FB page who has previously run meetings in Adelaide, but rarely with many/any attendees! If there was some more interest, and new people, this could become a bigger and better event though :)

Hey all!

Great to hear from you. I've signed up for the Adelaide Pelikan Hub so hope to meet you there.

I'll have to join the FB group too, but it'd be great to set up a pen meet, especially if there isn't an if community there. I'm part of a meet in London and it's great!

Hopefully bump into you both!

Looking forward to it Peninknewbie. The Pelikan Hub next month will be my first every pen meet so I'll looking forward to meeting some locals. Hopefully this will spark a little more interest in Adelaide.

You need to register on the Pelikan website to attend the hubs. Unfortunately I believe registration closed on the 17th. I'm sure there will be more FB meetings in the near future though.

I remember last year my friend was late to register but he emailed pelikan and they added him. Worth the time to shoot off an email!

Good advice, couldn't hurt to try. Would be worth the effort if successful.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
