Lamy 2000 Rollerball Hacks

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! This is my first post though I've been reading the forums a lot since I first realised that I'm addicted :)

There is so much info on the forums that I really didn't have any reason to ask something. Until now.

I've read a lot about Lamy 2k RB and I was very sure that it accepts Pilot G2 refills (and it should accept Uni super ink refills as well).

So I went ahead and got this pen during my last trip to Italy without checking whether the refill fits or not.

When I got home I was pretty much confused that it does not accept the G2 refill. And the reason is a small step inside closer to the tip.

Here's the photo:

Is it a freshly made change to force people use original refills or was it always like that with L2K RB?

I can force the G2 refill inside but first it takes a rediculous amount of pressure and second - it still does not look good. At all.

So i guess there should be some hack. I would greatly appreciate any advice that will keep the pen look the same and still accept original

refills in case I need them in the future and still be able to accept G2's.

Thank you!

Hi, and thank you! :)

The length of the refill is something that I was ready for as I already read about it. But before I have to deal with that,

there is a much bigger issue. As I have pointed in my initial post, the tip of the refill doesn't fit into the tip of the barrel.

So putting something behind the refill is not the point here.

And yes, that post is 8 years old already which is why I asked if the newer versions of L2K RB have been modified not to

accept the G2's.

Thanks anyway!

Just cracked mine open and it has this too. Not sure how old mine is though.

FYI I do enjoy my Montblanc feltliner refill with a small shim to make it longer. Sorry no help on the g2 situation.

Roadrunner, thanks a lot for the info!

And the news about Montblanc is great, I never actually thought of this yet.

Saying "feltliner" do you mean their "fineliner" refill?

Thanks!

Yes, sorry that was the autocorrect. The Montblanc fineliner or rollerball refil will fit but is too short. The refills come with a protective cap on the end of the refill... take that off and slice a portion of it off to make the shim! ( I didn't come up with this, I found a reference to it from another helpful soul)

roadrunner, this is just awesome. Thank you very much :) I was just looking for an everyday pen body to try this refill.

Still, I can't let the idea of fitting a G2 go. Actually, it's not a G2 that I am after but a Uniball refill with it's super ink that is fade and waterproof.

G2 is just a very common name and they're of the same size :)

how bout this?

it fits Style Fit, Hi-tec-C coleto, Prefil and AI+ refills

available via Amazon and Rakuten

as you are looking for uni-ball refills and Style fit is from Uni-ball it maybe the best bet

I looked into the specs the adapter would fit M63 Lamy refill pens and that L2K uses Lamy M63 refill I use the one for CdA with Zebra Emulsion refills from their Sharbo X :3

here's what it looks like for their CdA adapter

Algester, yeah, I've been eyeing these adapters for a while but there's one thing that stops me from moving forward.

One of the reviews on amazon says that it only fits Lamy Safari and Al-Star and does NOT fit Lamy 2000.

Talking about the ballpoint that you use it for - it's a pity the adapter can only take a D1 refill. It doesn't last very long for me...

Thank you very much for your attention to my quest :)

thats odd considering that Lamy uses the same refill for Al-star/Safari and Lamy 2K though

http://www.lamy.com/ger/b2c/2000/301

http://www.lamy.com/ger/b2c/al_star/384_pacific

though the company does make a BP lamy adaptor which certainly wont fit the RB bodies

and thats this

http://unus-product.com/item/ba-lm-16

ohh well I'll try to dig deeper

I saw the review it says that even though both pens use the same refill if you use the adapter on a Lamy2000 it won't cap? or close I'm not sure what he meant of not "closing"

that would mean there's something inside the Safari line form factor thats absent in the Lamy 2000 or vice versa I may think it's probably something similar to a spring

ok I dug through their facebook comments it seems that you will need to hack the adapter to make it work on the Lamy 2000 apparently the second step on the adaptor is bigger than what the Lamy 2000 needs

as qouted "レ買ったんですけど、LAMY2000は対応してないんですよね。。ぜひ2段目の段付き削ってLAMY2Kにも対応して下さい(切望!" maybe they will work on it for another redesign

apparently I think I see where the problem is the second step of the refill is smaller than what Lamy has as Lamy has a plain non 2 stepped design hmm interesting...

as for the D1 refills yes it kinda sucks that it has a shorter life span but its a certain improvement for me because I didnt like the Goliath refill's performance

worst case scenario I might be forced to guinea pig this idea (either some changes on the Lamy 2000 was made that made the refill technically fit but the older model won't fit) and the adaptor itself isnt cheap either so yeah...

Algester, that doesn't seem that odds really. While being away now I've experienced some new things with my Lamy's. I have a few ballpoints as well and one of them is Lamy 2000 BP and another one is Safari.

I wanted to try the Monteverde refills as there's a blue-black option which I like. And the brown looked interesting as well. So here's my experience - While Safari takes the refills and works without any problems, the

2K BP stops clicking properly. It still clicks but with a very ugly feeling and there's no way I will use this refill in this pen - it just ruins it.

So I really think that everything is possible with Lamy and 3d party refills/adaptors. Although they all work with their Lamy refills, there's no guarantee they will work with 3d party.

Here's that part from Amazon review that I'm talking about:

"Although it is an adapter for replacing LM-63, this only fits 2 models of LAMY pens which are Safari and Al-star (as it says).
I thought this could fit my LAMY 2000 since both Safari, Al-star and 2000 are using the same refill. But the adapter did not fit 2000 at all because of the design of the pen.
The adapter is solid built. When a pen refill is placed in the adapter, the refill is tightly attached on it."

And about the review you're talking about. I'm pretty sure "closing" doesn't have to do with the cap. It's about when you put the refill in and try to screw the business end back.

This is what happens when I try to put a Pilot G2 refill into Lamy 2K Rollerball - the writing end won't make it to the hole, it's get's stuck because of the step that I took a picture of in my initial post.

And because of the you cannot screw the body back together. So it won't close.

Anyone know if the fountain pen cap for the L2K can be used on a rollerball?

It would make sense for the Lamy 2000 cap to be compatible with fountain pen and rollerball. If you look closely at the rollerball, it has the same "ears" (metal pins) used to secure the cap on the body. The rollerball cap as a tiny "divot" in the top of the cap, whereas the fountain pen does not. Perhaps as a subtle way to distinguish the two. The section appears to be the same width and almost the same length. Sure looks like it should be compatible, but I'd check with someone who has both. I know "Clicky Post" has both (he has reviewed them on his blog).

On my versions of the 2000, it can without problems.

Thread resurrection!

FYI, I just (in January 2020) added the Lamy 2000 rollerball to my collection and find that G2 refills fit no problem. They are a little too short, but that’s easy to fix. I pulled the little plastic cap off of the end of a second G2 cartridge and put it in the blind cap. The length is perfect.

David, thanks for letting us know! This gives me courage to keep on trying :)

Seems like there're different versions of this rollerball. It's such a great body for a G2 size refill.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
