Faber Castell Loom Nib Problems

Recommended Posts

hello

i come to you seeking help

my beloved new and only pen Faber Castell Loom is givingme some atitude.

My first problem whas when i inserted long cartridge. The pen was loosing ink while capped and handled i would say with care. Or if i would uncap it faster drips of ink would fly off the nib.

I thought the bet was loose so i tighten it, i think about a turn or more. The dripping reoccured but not so ofthen. But somehow i managed to screw the nib sitting and the pen is not as smooth. I played with it a lot, tried to align the nib in the screw position (fine tune). Unscrew and reset the nib on the feed. But I am not doing it wright i think, because the pen does not feel as before (or maybe it is in my head)

I put the feed and the neeb on an i don't know why the pen became dry to the point that black ink looked grey, lines where intrerupted

Know it writes more wet, closer to what it used to write. i do not know what i did. I played with the nib a loooot. but i can not allign the neeb properly as it tends to have a feedback or i open the cap and the first lie is a miss. This never happened before this.

I attached a picture of the feed. How far should i place the nib on the feed? Should i cover the two holes or not?

help is much apreciated thank you!

I buy my second LOOM because I try to play with the nib unit and end up I find out do not disassembly the nib and feed unless you know what you are doing. But most of the time you learn it the hard way.

Make sure you align the feed correctly in the jacket first and put the nib in, the nib will stop correctly.

Any ideas how to make it write wetter? I mean it is writing ok but when i move the pen faster like underlying sometimes the feed does not keep up.

This was not a problem before from whatbi recall.

Especially when i move fast to the right, the left seams to be a fuller line.

Did the ink leaking problem happen with just that one cartridge? If so, it could be that that particular cartridge was cracked. Once you get your nib reassembled properly, just stick in a new cartridge and maybe things will be better.

I find my loom tends to want to eject ink that is particularly prone to nib creep (monteverde emerald green was really bad in this pen) I suspect due to the pen having the most ridiculously overtight snap ever creating a sudden vacuum in the cap.

I switched to liberty's elysium, which actually matches the blue of the cap, solved the issue. Definitely one of the only pens I've ever bought that I never messed with, it is, to me, the best steel nib I've ever used in my life.

Selling a boatload of restored, fairly rare, vintage Japanese gold nib pens, click here to see (more added as I finish restoring them)

I have Loom (fine) and it's quite leaky. Never tinkered with the nib at all. Is this normal?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
