American Art Plastics

apologies that this isn't directly about a pen or pens, but............... I've recently sent an order for some BHR blanks, for turning, to Mark Hoover at American Art Plastics in Maryland, and arranged the Paypal funds etc., but not able to reach Mark for some days now.

The poor guy may well have taken to his sick bed of course, or be having a months vacation in the Bahamas - but just wondered if any FPN members who might be in the area had spoken to him in the last few days. I know Mark has moved recently, but had assumed settled down again now and thought working as usual.

Thanks for any information.

Hullo.

I recently dealt with Mark Hoover - I ordered his deoxidiser which arrived promptly here in England. The email address I have is lbepens1@gmail.com.

thanks for the information Cob - in fact just within the last twenty minutes I've now made contact with Mark on a different phone No., and all apparently o.k. - my order is being sent out today. Thought I had been using the correct contact details but probably gremlins getting in there somewhere.

thanks again.

P.S. I was reading a few words on Deborah Gibson's 'Goodwriterspens' site about Mark's de-oxidizer, and it does seem full of promise. I've been buying a few things recently from the States, and of coursethere's always the need to factor in the shipping cost which is something we have to live with. However, I do get fed up with paying the C.& E. surcharge which can sometimes represent a hefty chunk of the purchase price - it's not on everything - books seem to get through without it, but other techie items don't far so well.

Had I known you were buying the de-oxidizer I'd have given you my order - and saved shipping and C. & E. charges. :D

Is the company still running? The website for AAP doesn't exist anymore. I'm wondering what happened.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
