Dear FPN friends.

It has been quite a while since I have been very very very busy :( I am still quite busy but I have finally have more time for the glorious eden called The Fountain Pen Network.... Hallelujah :notworthy1:

So here it is..... Finally :

The Comparison of all De Atramentis Standard inks

Since the amount of Pictures in a single topic is limited to 25 and there are 32 scans, I have inserted the first 21 pics her and the remaining 11 in a reply to this topic

As usual I have Inserted:

  • an ink vomitus
  • a handwritten text with 2 different nibs
  • a Q-tipp sheet
I tried to make the scans as colour true as possible to gve you a good impreesion of the beauty of these inks. Coulours tend to appear differently on different monitors and printers though. The best Impression of the ink is to see it "live"

I would love to send you a handwritten card with several inks you are interested in. So please send me an email to:

pierreliterair@gmail.com I will send you a postcard with a lovely photo of beautiful Europe as soon as possible :)

Ultramarin is a colour much used by Dutch Painter Johannes Vermeer

https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johannes_Vermeer

Jules Verne the colour is Deep Sea Blue which is not a Standard colour. According to Dr J Theme inks may bunt must not be based on an exisiting ink :)

Lavender Blue has a Violet Hue (very poetic)

Black Blue is very dark with a dark green hue Nice!

The Greys and Blacks

Sahara Grey is a bit of a funny Name as it truly is more like a green. Fellow FPN member Lapis once called it GRAUN a German combination of Grün and Brown... That said it is a nice variaion of an olive green

Night Black is a Black with a dark green hue.... Murky Magic!

Stellar comparison. I'm really hooked by Auburn, Night Black and York Brown. I haven't checked DA website (yet) but are there no reds, pinks, oranges, purples in the standard line? Or maybe you'll just post them in a sec and I practice unnecessary pressing.

You've sone great job in presenting DA inks. Thanks to it, I think I'll be getting some new inks that I never heard about / used (Auburn, Night Black, York Brown and, probably, Apricot).

I enjoy DA inks although some of them can cause strong fearhering on some papers. I think greys are Dr Jensen forte. All of his greys are great.

Stunning work. I am in awe. A few here that are going on my "want list": Aubergene, Ebony, Auburn, and a blue.

This incredible comparison is not what I need right now !

There are some overlooked (by me) and very beautiful looking inks here.

Thank you for putting them all together for us. :)

Now, considering my love for orange inks, and for inks that shade and outline a lot, there is no way I'm not gonna buy the apricot next time.., thanks, this is an awesome comparison, and just what I needed to get me to buy some deAtramentis.

Feathering sometimes is a problem unfortunately...

It is wise to collect messages on this so that dr J can improve these.

Of course I will send you an inspirational postcard too

If I remember correctly I believe you like bright coloured inks.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
