These pens where collected over a twenty year period, mostly during my stay in Abu Dhabi. The fascination for pens started at an early age thanks to my father who also had a small collection. The collection has now stopped since I have moved to India after retirement. Whenever I bought a new pen my wife used to very angry and it was a daunting task to pacify her. I had spent quite a tidy sum for my pen collection.

I have two Cross signet 18kt solid gold pens also which are not shown here since they are in a bank locker for safe keeping. I will post their pictures also in due course.

The Cross Signet, is that the pen with a number of black bands along the body?

Your gold pens have either a black cap, or a gold cap with a thin or a thick black line. Do you know the meaning of these different cap "jewels" ?

I have one such pen, a Cross Signature with gold end and broad black line. No gold content on body or cap. Only on the nib.

Yes the 18kt Cross Signets have 5 black rings along the body.

The thick or thin black line on the cap denotes the plating. The thin black line is 18kt plated, the medium one is 14kt plated and the thick one is 10kt plated.

Nice collection you have there. I see vintage pens offered for sale on Indian auction sites. So you can continue collecting pens even in India if in case you are still able to deal with the anger of your better half.:)

I hate to disappoint you, but those are NOT Cross Verve pens.

Can't tell you what they are, though.

The Signets are nice.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
