Nice pens. All grossly over-priced. If you look at everything he has for sale you will find good number of pens, Japanese and foreign, as well as antiquey-type stuff. There are a number of such sellers that park stuff on YJA in the hopes someone will pay the high price. Am thinking this is a resale operation as I have come across a number of similar sellers in the past. BTW, if you are not aware of how YJA operates, as I recall there is no relisting fee so this stuff might be occupying bandwidth for some time.

Best way of buying one of the pens at a good price is to ask a question about the pens on one of the non-pen sales pages. See if they are willing to come down or negotiate.

It says "仙台大橋堂"

It is a stationary shop in Sendai called Oohashido LINK

Apparently, the first two pens have been sold. The auctions ended as soon as there was a bidder.

Thanks - Ohashido is the spelling I am familiar with. Nice pens.

Tip: Because the pens are no longer for sale does not mean they sold for the asking price. Many times buyers make backchannel offers that are accepted. Did so myself numerous times.

In the two cases mentioned, there were one bid in each case. The closedauction info is still available. Can you really bid and then reduce somehow the price?

(Of course, I know that you can contact the seller and get an offer outside of Yahoo.)

Not sure. However, unless one HAD to have those Ohashido pens, prices were very high. If the buyer was a proxy service, it may be understandable. Have seen overseas buyers pay much more than locals for many pens.

Interesting. On eBay, there's the "Best Offer" option and when taken, the price has a slash through it... so you can know it went for less than the asking price. I take it that Yahoo Japan doesn't have a similar mechanism?

I recognize the code on one of those buyers, "V*8*A". They have won a number of very pricey auctions in the past.

That Nagahara Noriyoshi is beautiful. I wish they had some high resolution photos of it. But pricey as all get-out.

On Yahoo Auctions, there is a "Buy it now" option if the seller implements it. Most times combined with prices where they accidentally added a number too much or a wrong number. I have never sold something so I don't know if there is an option that as soon as there is a bid the auction is finished.

But in both auctions mentioned, the end of the auctions is identical with those of the first bids.

I have never seen a "Best offer" possibility.

Seller can stop auction at any time and sell the pen to anyone.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
