Salutations, Fellow Pen-Geeks!

Hey there!

First off, I am very new to the format of the site. So please excuse any amateur mistakes regarding wrong posting locations at first, as I am rather infamous for doing this. (I found this place through research on pen-related topics often bringing me to forums on here.)

But aside from that, it's nice to meet all of you!

I've always been fascinated with the medium of ink. It's really smooth, consistent, and has some sort of permanence to me. That was, until I discovered the different techniques one may use with it, not to mention the different types of ink.
Regardless, I am a very experimental person. I've tried many different types of utilizing ink and manipulating it to fit the purposes I was after...and had some nice surprises along the way.

I am one who uses pens for artwork, and is starting to gain interest in calligraphy. Any advice concerning the two, or other creative approaches with ink are always welcome for me-I always like to talk about topics that fall in that category, anyhow.

I've been looking for a place to casually discuss one of my side-obsessions (that slowly has started to eat into my everyday life) that not many around me have an interest in. It's great to find a group of people who have a similar appeal to this medium.

Disclaimer: I am nowhere near an expert on this topic, as some others on this site might be.

At any rate, apologies for the probably unnecessarily long intro. In actuality, I'm just a nerd that really likes to talk about anything, ink-related or naught. Although I'm a bit timid when being a newcomer.

Any other fellow ink-artists here?

Welcome to FPN! I'm no artist, but you'll find plenty here.

Thank you!

I'd think so; although I feel some artists might be avoiding fountain and dips pens more recently due to the popularity of fineliners, but at the same time fountain pens have formed a "cult" following in the opinion of some.

Welcome home. Pull up a stump and set a spell.

Thanks for the very warm welcome. I feel very at home.

Welcome !

You are supposed to tell us about yourself in an introduction. Yours is not especially long.

You write an easy-reading narrative.

Welcome aboard, from Charleston, SC. I've seen quite a bit of artistic work on display by reading through the Ink Reviews-that might be a place to connect with a few of the more artistically talented members.

Thank you!

I could have added more, but I don't particularly enjoy writing about myself.

I try to not overcomplicate my writing when simply conversing.

Greetings and a warm welcome !

Thanks for the warm welcome, as well as the advice.

Oh, and I think it might be worth mentioning that I know almost NOTHING about fountain pens. I started using them a long time ago, gave them up for dip pens, and now have returned to fountain pen territory out of interest and have been immersed ever since.

I guess what I'm trying to say is-

I've only used a couple of fountain pens in my life and really am not familiar with them all as a whole.

with a charge from over several millennia of continuing the art of recording man's life.

Welcome to our warm nook of the internet, where you can share this beautiful hobby with good and friendly people. Or as we say in low Saxon: Mooi a'j dr bint! (Good you're here.)

I, too, don't really know much about FP's. This forum can obviously change that. I also recommend browsing YouTube for a pretty quick immersion into the topic. Enjoy and Welcome!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
