... it was in 1970 a #126 Meisterstück fp with a sterling silver chased cap and a black chased barrel. It had (and still has) an OBB 18ct white gold nib. I got it from my father when I successfully passed my first exam after school during my training on the job.

Yes, I still have it. :)

Yes, after a friend found out I had renewed my interest in fountain pens after almost 50 years, she gave me her late Husband's pens, among them was a MB 146.

I was gifted this lovely 149 from my mother, when I obtained my university diploma in law science,1987. Since then, I use it on a daily basis.

I've given several to other people, a modern 144 to a then ten year old girl, a modern 146 to a friend who wanted to know what all the fuss was about and a Slimline to another friend that likes skinny pens but I don't remember ever being given a Montblanc.

I have been given two 149s, one by a friend, and another by a former employee. They both required minor restoration, but now are in excellent shape.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

In 2011 I suffered a series of strokes. When I recovered, and after 4 months of physical therapy, I was able to write with my pens, all be it my handwriting had gone to hell. A friend gave me a MB 149 as a gift to help me celebrate the fact that I could write again.

An Ernest Hemingway, given to me a couple of years ago by a friend who knew I'd been dreaming of one for ages. The only thing he wanted back for it was for me--a writer and a teacher of writing--to hold a writing seminar for teachers at a university, which I gladly did. (Would've done it without the Hemingway, but was very happy for the bonus.) I now use it almost exclusively for grading student papers, in honor of the context in which it was given

Have you ever been gifted a Montblanc?

Yes, the prior president of Montblanc gave to me a platinum faceted LeGrande rollerball, only a handful of which were made.

A friend who also happens to be fellow member of this forum kindly gave me a Montblanc: a 50ml bottle of very special ink! It's nice when things like this happen. :-)

Glad to see you back on the forum Sid. Not everyone acts like a c0ck, like many used too. Me included.

Hard times don't last, but hard people do.

Not yet, but I'm anticipating one when I finish grad school in 2 weeks. Looking at a Platinum 149 but trying to decide on a nib.

My husband gifted me 2 MB ... A Greta Garbo, nearly 2 years ago, and last year a 1906 Corail edition.

And I don't think it can really be thought as gifts, but every year for Christmas, my parents give me money, and since my grand-mother's death, the amount is enough to buy MB Princesse Grace de Monaco, and the Ingrid Bergman that was left in the town shop ... (I think I should write a post about the "Muses series", as I have the 4 of them now ...)

One pen roll, two pen rolls, three pen rolls ... So many pen rolls ! Do you want one ?

my tiny shop is open and you can have a closer look on my website to see my cotton (and sometimes silk) OOAK penrolls.

Aunt Kate's Montblanc Meisterstück 144 :

My cousin knows of my hobby. No one in our family can better appreciate, or serve better stewardship of her late mother's Montblanc, than I. It bears an EF nib that writes smoothly, and delicately with Montblanc ink. It is the only MB that I own.

Hi,

After completing my 2nd Thesis my family gifted me with a 149 + B nib. It came bundled with the iron-gall BlBk.

even after writing for hours on duty, churning-out grist for the mill, I'll grind some Sumatra beans, ink-up the 149 then write until the owl is asleep and the rooster crows.

Bye,

S1

I received a burgundy 144, F nib, when I completed my graduate degree in the early 1980s. It has a new converter now but is still going strong. It's my only MB aside from a vintage 342G that I bought recently from another FPN member.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
