Epic, how does the Ego compare to your other pens? Does the lack of an inner cap result in start-up problems?

It's only been two days so I can't say definitively. So far  I'm liking what I see (and use!)

Nope, no start up problems. Using FPN Van Gogh Starry Night in it now and it starts up with no issues. Then again I haven't left it aside for long. Maybe I'll leave it open for a minute or two later and report back

From a local business. Nope, not expensive, cost me $12 SGD (1.4 SGD to 1 USD)

I presume it would be available on Taobao

I ordered mine from Taobao, now awaiting for arrival.

No, I am not going to list my pens here.

The 659''s finishing really is quite poor. In the process of fixing mine all the cap markings disappeared. It's also easily scratched. Thank you for your comparison to the 698. Do get back to us when you finish the ink in the pen and tell us if your feed is stained as well.

I finally finished the ink in the 689 and after giving it a thorough cleaning the pen came back flawlessly.  The feed had no sign of staining. The ink used was Private Reserve Ebony Brown.

I'm very happy with the performance of the pen and look forward to receiving the stainless steel version. I'm still considering the 14K version and will need to make a decision as it appears that it is slowly rising in price. Cliff

Lord Epic, how does the Caliarts compare to the 698 in terms of nib and writing comfort? Cliff

Hi,

I don't have a 698 so I can't compare. Would be happy to take TWSBI comparison questions though.

Of course, you do !   And, another Eco, as well.  Give your heart what it wants.   Place no limits on your joy.

What could happen ?   You die with 100 fountain pens, then laugh, as your heirs try to imagine what to do them all.   :lticaptd:

Always the answer is YES!

Pens are better than another animal, cat or dog; my Mother always claimed her quilts stayed quietly, rolled in cupboards, never had to be fed, walked or visit the Veterinarian.  She loved her animals, but understood the care & attention they required; she would say quilts & the fabrics collected for their making, were "just so much easier to manage."

When I began acquiring pens I would laugh that they all would fit in a cigar box; after a few years, that may no longer be true & certainly the inks, "that followed the pens home," would not.  But still not as consuming of space as other things I have been interested in.  Fifteen years ago, there were six automobiles here, now two are really one more than I need!  But one was a collector car, my Father gave me & after 30 years it has just become "@ home."

InsuranceMan,

I have both. The nibs are cross-compatible and they feel very similar, I do plan to get more nibs to see how they behave, as there seems to be other makers of these nibs, and of course Pilot.

In terms of engineering, the 698 has the edge; I would much prefer to work on it compared to the Ego, but the clear material they use are both PMMA so they both feel rather nice. If anything, the 698 cap is much classier than the Ego's.
