Looking For Replacement Piston For Vintage Kaweco Sport 12G / V12

Hello everyone,

I recently found a vintage Kaweco Sport on a flea market. It's a 12G with a gorgeos OM nib. Sadly, the piston mechanism is faulty. I could not manage to get the pen inked and when I unscrewed the piston knob I discovered that the actual piston mandrel (?) is missing. I tried filling in ink after unscrewing the pen and was able to write and enjoy the soft nib but with the thread and seal of the piston missing the pen is leaking terribly.

I will attach a photo of the inside of the pen.

So I need a replacement "piston part", still not sure what exactly it is called but I have attached a second a photo for you that a nice person in a German Forum made for me to show me what I have to look for. What I need is the little piece "fehlendes Kolbenteil" as pictured! (The picture of the V16 is only to show that I can not use it because it's a different piston mechanism).

So, if anyone has this exact part and does not need it in a pen, please DM me! It might be from a Kaweco V12 or 12G, they seem to have an identical piston menchanism.

Oh boy, how could that piece sneak away? I'm afraid that will by very tricky to find. Maybe you can find a V12 in poor condition for parts. But I'd definitely contact H&M Gutberlet to see if they can help you out, they are very kind usually.

Good luck

fI doubt that you can find a new cork seal for any vintage pen, just make it yourself it's not that difficult and could be a fun project. Buy a good bottle of red wine, Bordeaux, Rioja, Chianti, to get a good quality cork. Enjoy the wine and use the cork for making a new seal.:) I bet there are tons of instructions in the repair forum how this is done.

And yes, what happened to the stray piston? Any luck finding a replacement?

An o-ring from an Ahab or Konrad will work in place of the cork in a 12: see my post under Repairs from a few days ago.

Dang, I have a V16 parts pen. Wish it could work in the OP's pen.

Many thanks for the hint... But I've already contact Tom Westerich in Italy for a new "like original" cork!

But the Ahab o-ring is very usefull for emergency, and the one sell from Goulet is a best buy!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
