Miami Pen Show <--- Anyone thinking of going??

My first time to a pen show, though I've been collecting for a little while.

As the community in South Florida is kinda sparse (if you're out there....connect!), I'm looking to get out there and learn more.

Yup. I just don't like the venue.

There are almost 9 million people in S. FL - you would think the place would be packed, but it isn't. The population there just doesn't fit the profile of fountain pen users for the most part.

Does anyone know the daily hours for the Show? The website lists Fri., Sat., Sun. as the Public Schedule, but I don't see each day's hours. Thanks.

You're right, no hours listed........I suspect 9AM is a good gauge for starting, at least on the weekend.

Might be wrong but I believe the start time was 10:00AM

when I went last year. There's a place in the shopping area

where you can get coffee if you are early.

I've never been to a pen show before. Will there be much in the way of $25-$100 pens there or is it mostly high end pens? Also, how does this show compare to others in the East?

My wife and I are going for the first time this year. I hope it will be fun. I have a couple pens to be worked on, and hope to pick up a few things from my "wish list." If anyone wants to do a meet up, post up here! ;)

...So much ink, so little penmanship....

I've been to the last three or four shows and you should be

able to find pens in that price area. There will be a fair share

of high priced pens but in general, there is a good selection.

I have been to the Philly, Baltimore and Long Island shows

and I would say that the Miami show is on the smaller side.

All the times I have gone, there has always been a good

representation of dealers and I have always managed to

get what I needed.

Good luck at the show and enjoy!

I see Italian Pens is a sponsor. I've bought a few pens from Lou over the years and highly recommend him, for what it's worth.

So , its about three weeks away ... count down has started.

Has anyone seen or heard about who some of the vendors

will be?

Hey Bert! If you are reading this, could you tell us who will

be there.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
