Will There Be A 2017 Commonwealth Pen Show?

I've got to plan a trip to see family up in Gloucester this week and I would REALLY LOVE to pack in an extra day to attend the Commonwealth Pen Show. Is it happening this year? Any idea when? Any idea if it will be in September again or maybe earlier? I really want to make these dates coincide, but I need an idea of the time.

Thanks all!!

Ah. That answers that question (even though their show page isn't updated). Thanks. Looks like I won't be able to make it, doggone it :(

Yeah, I'm kinda having the same issues. I got to go 2 years ago, because we were able to schedule a trip east for the weekend of the show. But then went up to MA for both Thanksgiving and Christmas on top of that....

It was a really small show though, the year I went. I think there were only 17 dealers.... In a way, it reminded me of the time years ago when I went to the New England Weavers Seminar. I couldn't afford to go the entire weekend, so I just day tripped it (it was at some college in Rhode Island, so only an hour or so away from where we were living at the time, west of Boston). But then I wasn't allowed to sign up for more than two classes and one workshop (plus the opening guest speaker talk, and the fashion show). I was told "Oh, but you need to have some time for shopping...." And my (inside voice) response was "Seriously? There's only 11 dealers here -- how much shopping could I possibly DO?" (Lessee, I bought a couple of books, a t shirt, and a beater and some tapestry weaving bobbins, and bought myself a couple of lunches, and I think I may have had to pay for supplies for the workshop...; this was all, of course, in *addition* to paying for admission, which included signing up for the classes and the workshop, IIRC).

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Yeah. It is only one day and it isn't even listed on the PCA site, for some reason, so I assumed it would be really small anyway. I just thought, since I had to see my mother up there I could combine it. But I have to be in Orlando the next day for a business trip, so there's any number of reasons why I shouldn't divert up to MA for a one day pen show :)

Still holding out hope on the D.C. Show, if they ever announce.

Rats! I like this show, and have been there a few times--it's within driving distance, and it's a 1 day show, so little expense for me. I've made reservations to go to the Dallas show. Same weekend. Conflicts for Columbus & Philly, and quite possibly no DC show. Bummer.

Please play a little violin of pity for me.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
